Bought this Volvo in 2007 with 65,000 miles on the odometer. The seller had shown me all the maintenance paperwork up to that date and everything had been serviced regularly by the local Volvo dealership, including the transmission. After about 10,000 miles the tranny started bucking a little between first and second gear. I called the dealership and they assured me that it was normal. After a few thousand more miles the same thing started to happen between second and third gear and I was once again told that this was normal. I checked my maintenance paperwork and figured that my next service was due at 95,000 miles. I will admit here that I did go over by about 3,500 miles and didn't think it was that big of a deal. One morning after work I went to take the car to be serviced. The Volvo dealership was only a half a mile from my job. Half way there I lost everything. It was as if the transmission just packed its bags and left my car completely. I waited for two hours to get it towed a quarter of a mile. Then the Volvo dealership had the nerve to charge me $95 to run a diagnostic test to tell me my transmission was bad. WHAT THE %$@#&*!!!! I could have told them that for free!!! So it was either pay them the money or they wouldn't give me my car back. They quoted $5,000 for a new transmission. They actually told me that their technicians didn't know how to work with rebuilt transmissions. REALLY???? Took it to a local tranny guy, found a used one for $1,200 with 66,000 miles on it and haven't had a problem with it since. Other parts of the car are a different story though. LOL
