Volvo makes a great car. HOWEVER, the stereo components they put in these things are pretty lame. Avoid getting the "premium sound package" with your new car since you can upgrade with a better system for less money through a reputable stereo place. Great Northern Stereo in Burlington Vermont did a crappy job on my first install, but an independent installer straightened out they mess they made. Sony Xplod is a great head unit with an amp that boosts the sound quality dramatically. They might tell you you can only use Alpine upgrades with your Volvo; this is bullshit. You can simply get a premade wiring harness and put aything in those cars. Just be certain that you get someone who knows what they are doing. Circuit City is full of morons, Best Buy--morons, Great Northern Stereo-definite morons. You'll probably need a new subwoofer and head unit. The two combined should run about 600 bucks.
