The contact owns a 2004 Volvo XC70. While parked, the contact noticed a fuel odor coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostics. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign id number: 09V483000 (fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump) but as advised by the manufacturer that the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was included in an extended warranty but the vehicle had already exceeded the mileage requirements. The failure mileage was 151,000. Updated 04/19/12 the consumer stated the vehicle was repaired by the dealer at a reasonable price. Volvo paid for the parts. Updated 04/27/12

The contact scheduled an appointment for the vehicle to be repaired under the recall. The contact traveled 55 miles each way and upon arrival at the dealer, she was advised that the part was unavailable and the vehicle was not repaired. The contact experienced the identical problem on a separate occasion with the same dealer. The third attempt for the recall repair; the contact had taken the vehicle to a different dealer where the recall remedy was performed; however, after the repair fuel was leaking from the vehicle onto the ground. The manufacturer was notified and they informed that the dealer would correct the recall remedy repair. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The failure mileage was 70,000. The VIN was unavailable.

The contact owns a 2004 Volvo XC70. The contact experienced difficulty starting the engine. She made several attempts before the engine started and then heard a loud noise followed by excessive vibration. Immediately, the check engine warning indicator illuminated intermittently on the instrument panel. The driver smelled a strong odor of fuel when the vehicle was in operation. In addition, there was a small amount of fuel spilling onto the ground from the fuel tank. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing and they stated that the fuel pump failed. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure and current mileages were 95,000. Updated 2/20/09 the mechanic stated the main fuel pump had a crack at the housing. Updated 02/23/09.
