Ford Cracked Fuel Injector Recall Issued For Third Time

Posted in Recalls

— A Ford cracked fuel injector recall has been issued for the third time for Ford Escapes and Ford Bronco Sports.

As in the previous recalls, a fuel injector can crack and leak fuel inside the engine compartment and cause a fire, this time in more than 40,000 recalled vehicles.

The recalled 2020-2022 Ford Escape and 2021-2023 Ford Bronco Sport vehicles were not repaired correctly in the previous two recalls.

A Ford cracked fuel injector recall was announced in November 2022 for about 636,000 Bronco Sports and Escapes in the U.S. and Canada. This was followed by a Ford cracked fuel injector recall in April 2024 for 2022-2023 Ford Bronco Sport and 2022 Ford Escape SUVs equipped with 1.5L engines.

"The dealer instructions to complete the recall instruct the technician to upload the latest software using the service tool, which downloads the latest software from Ford for installation on the vehicle. For these vehicles, the software tool did not upload the correct software to the vehicle." — Ford

The fuel injectors can still crack and leak fuel, and fuel or even fuel vapor near an ignition source can cause a fire.

Ford knows of four engine compartment fires in the recalled vehicles but engineers haven't confirmed cracked fuel injectors caused the fires.

Ford cracked fuel injector recall letters will be mailed April 24, 2025, and dealers will update the powertrain control module (PCM) software.

Ford Bronco Sport and Escape owners may call 866-436-7332 and ask about Ford cracked fuel injector recall number 25S21.
