2009 Chevy HHR had problems with stick gear stuck and will not move on position to dr or rev for several minutes. Car has been hesitating and racing to then jerks like I'm being hit. Happens everyone I press on the gas. I took it into bauchman Chevrolet to have serviced and was told it was fixed 2 weeks later it is doing it again. It almost caused a rear end due to hesitation. I need to get this fixed by dealership. Others have reported same issues.

For the last month my electrical system has been going haywire, all of a sudden all my gauges start fluctuating and all service indicator lights will come on and after the car is off for a while all warning lights will go off. This morning on my way to work my security lock and ESC warning lights came on and when I stop and start to go again the car feels like it is getting hit from behind. My two rear windows no longer work, front passenger door will not unlock automatically and driver door handle is broken. I have seen a lot of electrical issues on this site, yet there have been no recalls. What is going on??

Car when stopping began to run rough. After engine light came on. Went off day later. Had oil changed then the ABS track light and brake light came on. Messages: Service tracking and ESC. Had diagnosed. No one so far has been able to figure out problem. Code CO550 was read but no specific problem code shows up. There is no end to expense to correctly diagnose problem. GM has on line similar problems with Malibu and equinox. But not 2009 HHR. They should be able to assist fixing this problem. If car no fixed will not pass inspection. It could cost upwards of 800 dollars before it can be figured out. GM shoud know the problem cause and help out. This car was made in Mexico. Could this be the problem?

The ESC has gone out and the turn signals work, but now I have to turn them off manually. The ignition has been replaced twice. Once when it was new because the ignition would not turn off. The second time was a recall. The digital display which includes the radio, and information system turns on and off intermittently.

Approx : March 2016 - - 48000 miles, my cruise control system stopped functioning completely, when turned on. Indicator light still works, researching I've found a simple burnt out brake light bulb may be the cause for this defective unrelated failure. Either way I'm not seeing any error messages or warnings alerting me to what problems I might really have so that they can be addressed. If there isn't a recall yet, maybe an investigation is in order. Tia, L-T-G

My 2009 HHR has what is referred to as the May 15, 2014 GM tail light malfunction. The malfunction is caused from faulty wiring and causes the brake lights illuminate without touching the brake pedal and they remain on while driving. This malfunction also disables safety features like electronic stability control ' which tries to correct for skids ' and panic braking assist, which is designed to make sure the vehicle's full braking power is being used in an emergency. It also disables the cruise control and the traction control. In 2014 G.M. said it knew of hundreds of complaints and 13 accidents associated with the problem. I have had several near accidents and several issues of road rage from other drivers since my HHR began the malfunctioning in February 2014 which is when I first contacted GM to get it fixed. Since then I have filed complaints with the NHTSA, the federal trade commission, the state of Wisconsin consumer protection Agency and GM but have not yet had anyone step up and fix the problem. Since the malfunction causes the BCM to lose memory with the brake positioning sensor I did take the vehicle to a certified GM dealership and had them re-learn the memory between the two. This solved the problem temporarily and lasted about two months. I cannot afford to have this done every two month as a solution. GM needs to be ordered to fix the issues correctly before someone is fatally injured.

I have a 2009 HHR and I have been having a number of problems the ESC and the ABS warning lights come at low speeds around 5 to 15 mph and the brakes make a growling noise I drive 80 miles a day back and forth to work in stop and go traffic on the interstate and the turnpike I am afraid I will rear end somebody or worse I don't want to let my wife drive the car because when it occurs she might not know on to react. When I turn the car off and it goes away for a while but comes back. And the service air bag light comes on from time to time when it is raining or heavy dew I had the recall performed on the air bags and it still is happening the passenger air bag display on the dash will come on when there is no one sitting in the passenger seat. The service ABS light also comes on at the same time as the ESC and the traction control light I don't feel safe I have 179,000 miles on the car the electrical system in this car has a major problem and it needs to be addressed by GM before more people are hurt or killed as I have read in other comments I don't want to take it to the dealer and just go thru the remove and replace tango trying to get lucky and fix the problem or play car doctor and treat the symptoms and not address the malady

Car would not turn off. Key would not turn. Eventually pulled fuse and got car to stop. Took to dealer next recalls came out later and I took it in three times to get recall things fixed. I still have same problems as other owners with my electrical system, the dic giving false information such as no air pressure in one of the tires, the ABS and traction need repair etc. Steering wheel almost always shakes when brake pedal is pushed and sometimes seems like it is driving under its own control. I have loved the car since I bought it with less than 9,000 miles on it in December 2010, but I drive my handicapped husband and elderly mother to many doctor appointments and cannot handle the anxiety of being an accident waiting to happen all the time. There is already the feeling of helplessness in car accidents without one driving a car that can't be controlled at all times. And these things happen out of the blue without warning. It isn't like you have even a feeling that something may be going out or that a problem is beginning. It's just boom, here's the situation, handle it! I, at all times, must keep my mind on the fact that my brakes, steering, transmission and/or electrical system may fail as I am driving down the street. This does not make for a calm driving experience. Nervousness and high anxiety is not a condition that anyone should be in when handling a potentially deadly weapon in and around other people, animals and vehicles. All these other owners can't be wrong, maybe GMC should just recall the whole car and let us get one we don't have to be afraid of causing an accident, so we can concentrate on our own and other people's driving to prevent them..

The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet HHR. While driving at 50 mph, the cruise control failed to activate and the brake lights remained illuminated. The electronic stability control indicator illuminated prior to the failures. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The VIN and failure mileage were unknown. MA 08/11/15 the consumer stated the vehicle was repaired but, the failure recurred 14 days later. The consumer was advised of a May 2014 recall that included the same malfunctions. The consumer wanted to be reimbursed for all associated attempted repairs for the brake lights. Updated 05/10/2017 updated 11/01/2017

The electrical system in the car has shut down and has caused my power steering to go out while I am driving. It dings so I have some notice. But none the less really scary and very hard to turn going 20 mph. My brakes are very hard when this happens. My thermostat/ coolant information is currently displayed as dashes (----) across my dash, making this really difficult to know if it is hot or has run out and my ac is connected to this also so when it decides to work my ac will work. It will turn off and on while driving too. My mph reads my speed going 20 mph over what I am actually driving. My car has completely shut off while driving. The check engine light comes on and off making it more difficult to get codes.

My car started with the ignition switch back in October with the key not shutting off the car and having to disconnect the battery to shut it off, took it into the dealer and they fixed it, but now things are getting scary. Every other day my car is telling me that the ABS systems needs fixed and that the traction control needs serviced. The breaks were replaced in December of 2013 and we were told that there is nothing else wrong with the car and now this.. took it back to the dealer and they informed us that there is nothing wrong with it, but the lights come on and go off for no reason.. the passenger seat belt locks all the time and even after you unlatch it, it stays locked for some time. I am so frustrated over this issue and can't get any answers on it.
