2012 Chevrolet Volt Premier that I've owned for 5 worry-free years until about 6 months ago, when every time a front seat passenger would exit the vehicle, I would get a SERVICE AIRBAG warning indicator message on the display. Most times it would go away on its own after driving for a bit. Other times I'd have to press down on the passenger seat cushion multiple times in order to get it to clear the warning message. Discussing with the dealer, and reading online, indications are that this is a failing front seat passenger presence sensor. Dealer quoting $900-$1100 to fix. NHTSA complaint filed. They are currently investigating under NHTSA Action Number PE19013.

Passenger seat airbag sensor is faulty, therefore causing the service airbag warning to come on.
