As of 1/14/20 Chrysler and kevin pike from nederveld are still investigating. On 9/20 around 5am we were awoke to an explosion sound. It was our garage door being blown to the street and the interior garage door being blown inwards. This was due to a fire that started in our garage confirmed to have started where the pacifica was parked. The pacifica had been plugged in to a juicebox charger professionally wired with a dedicated 220V outlet since around 7pm the previous evening. I believe something malfunctioned with the car's electric battery causing it to start a fire that built up in the garage and eventually caused a total loss of our home and everything inside it. We did not have any other flammable or explosive substances in the garage besides a 1 gallon gas container on the other side of the garage confirmed to not be near the start of the fire. The vehicle had been completely drained of battery the previous day, plugged in and was charging overnight. This description also matches the same description 2 other families have posted online of their pacifica catching fire but their vehicles were parked outside so did not burn down their homes and no investigation was conducted. The consumer provided photos.

Pacifica Hybrid

  • 22,000 miles
The minivan began to have a message on the dash board indicating the driver to shift to P and restart the car while the car was in motion. The car proceeded to decelerate without the driver pressing on the brakes. This has happened three times. Once, it was while the car was driving on the highway and the deceleration began. The driver had to pull off to the off ramp to exit and the car stalled. The second time the car was stopped while waiting for a stop light to turn green and it won't restart. The third time happened when the car was on the highway about to get off to the off ramp and the stalling began. Chrysler kept saying that the problem was resolved when we brought the car to the dealer but it kept happening. Also, the main screen keeps going blank for the dvd player and you are not able to utilize that function. We were told the problem was resolved when we took the car to the dealer but it continued after each fix. All of these repairs are on Chrysler database.

Phev van was charging overnight while plugged into house outlet (110V) using manufacturer supplied charging cable. At around 7 am we heard an explosion and found the van burning in our driveway. Vehicle was quickly engulfed in flames. Fire truck put it out after arriving (~5-6 minutes, I think). No one was injured, in or near the car when it happened. A nest camera across the street showed that the vehicle was smoking prior to the explosion. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Pacifica Hybrid

  • 2,000 miles
Similar frustrating experience here for the 2019 Pacifica hybrid limited. Bought brand new in Dec. 2018. Now only 2,000 miles on it, the minivan rattled on startup (with 60% charged) and could barely accelerate when I tried merging into a main road. The vehicle put itself into a low-speed mode (aka the famous 'red turtle mode'), and then would no longer accelerate at all! fortunately, I was able to pull over into a parking lot. Unable to fix the issue by putting into 'P' gear, had to completely turn off, lock the vehicle, then came back to start the vehicle to recover the power. However, the engine light still left on. After visiting the dealership, they decided to replace the high voltage battery. It took more than 40 days for the whole process. It's far from the ending of this terrible experience since multiple faults came after picking up the vehicle. Within one week after picking up the vehicle, we experienced another engine light on and one new warning light 'service hybrid electric vehicle system' (a red electrical wrench symbol). Both lights ended up with disappearing themselves after driving some distance. Lastly, we experienced more than three times entertainment systems automatically turned off then back on without any clue. These happened twice while I was cruising on the highway, and once happened in the parking lot while I was backing into the parking lot.

Driving from san francisco to las vegas at 70 mph the engine stopped. We were able to get off the expressway under some duress. We called emergency responders but after 30 to 40 minutes the car started again. A part was ordered (energy inverter modem) but has not arrived in almost three months. Afraid to use car out of town.

2018 Chrysler pacifica lost power due to the torque convertor locking up I know because I have the freeze frame data in a snap on zeus using the 18.4 software. It was moving at 39 miles an hour when the transmission locked up. Code in freeze frame is P061B internal control module torque calculation performance. This is a gsa government lease vehicle. This vehicle has only 6,617 miles on it. It is in a repair shop in everett Washington this vehicle will be in the shop for two more weeks. Chrysler has engineers coming out to look at the failure because they are unable to figure out what went wrong. The failure took place at 9pm on Monday March 18, 2019 on a two lane road the driver was able to pull off the road and park it in a independent repair shop and uber home that night. When I went out to investigate the next morning waiting for the tow truck to show up I got data from the vehicle and a vehicle health report. That be attach to the email. If the vehicle was on the freeway things would have been much worst. The vehicle health report will say 2017 pacifica I had to lie to the scan tool in order to get the data out of it. This is a 2018 for sure if there a recall for this can I get credit for just say vehicle fleet manager at northwest fisheries science center discover a fault issue with this car. Thanks for your time. Transmission repaired invoice attached. I bought the car new 3 weeks ago. I charged overnight using the provided 110V charger and it seemed fine. The next morning all batteries were dead, no response to any buttons. The entire car reeked of sulfer which seems to indicate a major electrical short. In addition, the electrical parking brake is engaged so the car can't be safely towed from it's current location. I have a dead car I can't move and can't have looked at. I don't even feel safe jump starting it. This was supposed to be the safe reliable car to fit the extra carseat I'll need when my next kid is born in a couple months. I'm afraid of this car now.

Two weeks after purchasing this vehicle, it started having numerous electrical issues. Finally on a Friday, the check engine light came on. Called th dealership and they said to bring it in the next week. Went to work. (battery has been fully charged) came out of work and vehicle would not start. Then it started going crazy. Wipers going. Lights flashing. Does wouldn't open. All without car being turned on. Called the dealership and they gave me a loaner and towed the car to their lot. The next morning I received a call that the vehicle had rolled into another vehicle overnight and crashed. On its own. With no keys in it dealerahip is lewis Chrysler in fayetteville ar and they said they have video footage from their security cameras. Luckily I was able to retract my contract for purchasing this vehicle and buy another one. And luckily no one was hurt. These vehicles are not safe and need to be investigated. A week before this happened, I was driving down a busy street going 45mph and the car shut off. Luckily I was able to coast into a parking lot and restart it but it could've been much worse. If you go on pacificaforums.com there are so many stories of similar issues. Some much scarier.

While driving on the highway going 70 going home after work the vehicle suddenly lost all ability to accelerate. I still had power, but the dash told me to press the break to start the car. I managed to coast off the bridge I was on thankfully and pulled off the side of the road. The car was stuck in park. I tried turning it off but it would only shut off for 2 seconds and immediately turn back on with the same problem. The vehicle was immobilized in park and would not shut off. The engine light stayed on the whole time. I had to call a tow to get home. The tow truck driver was able turn the car off and the car was drivable again but the engine light remained on. The vehicle is a 2018 with 5609 miles on it and have only owned it for 3 months.

Pacifica Hybrid

  • 1,100 miles
At about 1100 miles, while on a family trip out of state, a red battery (lithium)/charging system warning light came on and the car slowed to a stop, accompanied by a strong burning electrical smell. Got the family safely it off the car. Tow truck came and driver confirmed burning electrical smell when he opened the hood. Towed it to the dealer which was closed and it sat for 24 hours. I went back to it to get some things and pushed the start button and immediately the burning electric smell. Shut it off. Several days later, after the call from the dealer saying there was no problem with the car, the battery was just severely discharged, I returned 200 miles to retrieve the car. Halfway home, a red warning light flashed on and the check engine light stayed on. I called the dealer from whom I bought the car and the service person advised to keep driving and drop it off at the dealer, which I was able to do. Technicians seem not to know what is happening or how to repair the problem.

After updating U73 update, if PCM firmware is not up to date the catalytic converter can overheat and cause a fire. Chrysler is doing nothing to contact the customers this is affected. After going to the dealership was told to come back as there is nothing wrong. After asking for that in writing the dealer was willing to look to see if there was a needed update, there was. After performing the flash the dealership notified me that need to come back so they can inspect the catalytic converter to be sure it did not over heat and is not damaged.

Was driving the vehicle at 70mph on the freeway. A "thunk" sound occurred and the car began decelerating rapidly despite pressing down on the gas pedal. Check engine light turned on and the car continued to decelerate. Cabin filled with a small amount of smoke. Came to a complete stop and the car would no longer accelerate at all. Turned the car off and then on to get it the final 100 feet to a gas station. Parked and the car smelled like smoke/burning in the cabin and the engine compartment. Turned off the vehicle until a tow truck arrived. When tow truck arrived, turned vehicle on to turn off electric parking brake; all electronics in the vehicle were acting up and could not turn off parking brake for a good 15 minutes. Finally got it off and towed to the closest dealer.
