Journey R/T 3.6L V6

My 2011 RT AWD will drop into a lower gear (1st gear) while driving on the highway.

I first noticed this while in cruise and could clear the issue by pulling over, shutting off and the starting up again. But it will do it again within 5 minutes. I then tried it the next day out, just in drive, and never had a problem for a week. On August 19 though, it happened in Drive, on Highway 11, in heavy cottage traffic at 105Kph.. I had to drive about a kilometer in what seemed like 1st gear, at 6000RPMs before I could pull off, shut down and start up again.

It kept doing it and I found some other ways to clear the issue, One way is, when it clunks and changes to 1st (Im assuming it is 1st)

but it keeps on happening. the revs will go up and if I give it throttle, you can feel it is in the wrong gear. But if I back off the throttle, the revs will drop to 1500, and it seems to get back into the right gear sequence again. But ran fine for the last 70k as I stayed under 100Kph. On August 20, it did it several times on hilly haliburton roads several times at any speed. It seems to occur during a shift change, but instead of dropping one gear, it goes all the way to 1st and stays there, generally until I pull over and restart the vehicle.

Any advice is appreciated,

Mike
