Engine light came on as the Escape lost power. I looked on line for possible caused for the low power of the vehicle, and called Mullinex Ford firs thing on Monday morning May 21st to schedule replacement of the electronic throttle body. No message from Mullinex Ford about this problem in any form. We were put in danger every time the car was driven.

Hi Everyone..My story is as follows. Purchased a real clean (used) 2011 Ford Escape limited (loaded) from and area Toyota dealer in Seekonk MA on 6/14/16. Went roughly 500 miles since purchase. Today while driving the car locally in regular traffic started sputtering and the "check engine" and "powertrain- wrench" dash lights came on. Pulled to the shoulder. Shut off , waited 5 minutes and started back up. Check engine light stayed on- drove 3 miles to the Toyota dealership . They diagnosed the issue / reset the light as the Ford Electronic Throttle body problem- but could not help me, had to be done at the local FORD dealer. Contacted TASCA Ford, they set me up with a close service date for the car. Picked up the car from the dealer and drove it home- about 10 minutes into the drive , again started sputtering and this time just the "wrench" -Power train dash light came on. Pulled over - shut off/ restarted the car, drove home. light off. - I will let you all know what happens when I bring the car for service at Tasca Ford. Just a side note- the Toyota dealer I purchased the car from does stand by my purchase agreement - 60 days or 2600 miles from time of purchase, so in any event they will be covering repairs.

Escape LX 2.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 29,843 miles

While driving the car stalls and dies. The engine light is on. I will take it to Ford, where I bought it and have them check it out. I will let you know the results.

Update from Aug 8, 2015: Today while driving the car it slowed down with no power, the engine light appeared, turned off the engine, started again made it to Auto Zone. They ran a test- and this is the result. Definition=Throttle actuator control

system stuck closed. Explanation=aaECM has detected the throttle plate is at a lower angle than commanded.

Probable cause==Binding throttle body stock closed. That's a factory defect. Got a printout of the results to take it to the Ford dealer where I bought the truck.

My check engine light doesn't go off. Has there been other complaints on this? I took it to AutoZone and they said it is the oxygen sensor and the seal on my gas cap needs to be changed and told me I should take it to my dealership.
