Oil leaking a bit on the driveway for a few months, and then I had an oil change and they said there was no hurry. Took it in and paid $134 for them to "fix it" by tightening the drain plug. They said bring it in to inspect repair a week later. I took it in, and they said it is the timing cover that is leaking, so it has to be replaced, which entails replacing the gasket, water pump, chain etc. The total was labor: $2432 and parts: $2386. The variable valve timing is over $750.

i haven't had it done yet because the worth of the car is about $6000. I don't know if this repair price is on target or not, but it looks like Ford has had issues with this leak before and my warranty is over and they won't help.

timing chain cover and valve cover gasket leaks

Hi Everyone. I have an annoying problem and by the looks of information on the web- other Ford Escape owners are facing the same thing. I purchased my 2011 Ford Escape Used with under 50K on the odometer in June of this year. The vehicle is out of warranty - and was purchased from a Toyota (trade in) dealer. Within 100 days of purchase and under 54,000 miles on the odometer, I start to have an oil drip coming from my car onto the driveway. I contacted FORD to see if there was any recalls .None found on this. Took it to TASCA ford in Seekonk MA, where they officially diagnosed the leak as coming from the Valve cover and Timing Chain cover. Replacement parts $72. Labor to replace/take motor apart $800! I contacted FORD again and asked if there was anything they could do (financial assistance, extended warranty etc)..Was denied any assistance. I do know private mechanics who could do the work for a lot less, but really wanted FORD to do it...I hope there is a TSB or recall on this problem as I know I am not alone. Thoughts?> Thank you.
