Escape XLT 3.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 171,740 miles

On 8/07/2022 I was driving my 2011 Ford Escape XLT 3.0L V6 when it lost all power and a wrench symbol popped up. Thank God for being in the lane for the next exit. I had someone nice enough to push it to the side. I was taking my son to the dentist. My heart almost jumped out of my chest as that was the most scary driving experience in my entire life. This has caused me to not trust a car at all, out of fear that something could just go out without any warnings or indications of an issue. I pray that no one has lost a life this way. For someone such as myself with health issues, this can be very triggering.

I took it to a mechanic and they told me that it was a throttle body issue common with this model. I had no idea. I immediately began searching for answers online, and help. I found this site for complaints and I hope that there will be something done for people with this vehicle before it's too late. I wouldn't even want to sell this to someone and put them in danger. How could a company not do something about this? How is this deemed "ok"? The makers should really consider that it could very well be their loved ones in this predicament.

Escape 2.5L

  • Manual transmission
  • 67,500 miles

I have a 2011 Ford Escape. I was driving and the gas pedal stopped working out of nowhere and I could not accelerate. luckily i was able to coast to the side before getting rear ended. What is frustrating about this is Ford had a recall a couple years ago for my make and model for a bad throttle .. Same exact issue I had where i was driving and couldn't accelerate. Instead of replacing the throttle they gave 1.6 million customer Satisfaction Program warranties.. so basically you had to have an issue before it would be replaced. I called Ford Corp 5/23/16 and because my VIN# wasn't one in the recall they will not pay for my $400 bill. It is the same exact issue as the recall but since my VIN# is different they wont pay. How does that make any sense. Luckily I didn't get into an accident . I find it incomprehensible that Ford recalls the Throttle Body in their cars and will not do the right thing and pay for mine. I drive the highway everyday to work and I cant even imagine if it failed on the highway. All because I don't have the right VIN#.. Maybe they need to consider expanding their VIN#'s. This is a very serious issue and the fact they don't care makes me rethink my next car purchase. We have 2 Ford's now and I don't see a 3rd in my future.
