I have had issues with my electric power steering assist where when I am driving at low speeds and I turn my wheel, my car rumbles. I brought it to a trusted mechanic who diagnosed the problem as the electric power steering assist. He found the recall and told me to take it to the dealership. I called the Ford 1-800 number and they said that my car was not eligible for the warranty. The warranty applies to Ford Escapes manufactured 2008-2011 in the Kansas City plant. My car was manufactured in 2010 in Kansas City. The issues my car has directly match the issues described in the recall, "The Affected Vehicles Have A Steering Torque Sensor That May Not Be Able To Properly Detect Driver Steering Input. As A Result, The System Could Remove The Electric Power Steering (eps) Assist." I brought it into the dealership and they said there wasn't anything they could do because Ford was not honoring the recall on my car. It is absolutely maddening. Why should I pay to fix a defect on my car? I want to get this resolved but I'm afraid of the safety of the issue while I keep driving with it.

Escape XLS 2.5L 4 cyl

There is a recall for this problem but my Escape is not included. The manufacturer date stops at 9/2010 and mine is 1/2011. This started with not working when you started the vehicle and you could turn it off and restart it and it would work. It has gotten worse and it happens so much that the constant turning off and restarting it has ruined the battery. Just this past weekend, for the first time, it quit working while I was in the middle of a turn. Had my wife been driving, it is her vehicle, she may well have hit the car next to her. It was all I could do to keep from hitting it myself. I reported it to Ford last year and they told me to file a complaint with the National Transportation and Highway Safety people. I have gotten no response from them. They should extend the recall to include all of the ones that are affected. I cant believe that I am the only one who has reported this problem. As it is it would have to be seriously cheap fix for me to be able to afford it. I guess it will take another accident to get their attention.
