[xxx] : the inside door handle broke on front passenger side and driver side. They have been breaking for over two years now. The price to fix this is going to be $243.50 and the Ford Motor Company will not fix it and will not give a percentage off. I am not the only one who is having this problem. It is all over the internet ways to fix this problem because Ford will not fix. Or do anything. This is a safety hazard if you have a wreck or emerge in water you would not be able to get out. I think your department needs to get involved....they recall the Ford F150 for the same thing, I am 68 years old and if I get into a wreck they will be no way for me to get out of my car. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

The right rear door handle snapped when my 3 yr old grandbaby tried to open door. As time has gone on, the left rear door handle snapped. That was followed by the drivers door handle snapping. I now have to crawl to the passenger side to get out. Used to be able to pull the lock feature to open it, but, can no longer do that. I've seen a million complaints about these handles. In case of emergency, one cannot get out of the car. This could easily result in death that could easily be avoided by exiting the vehicle. I also have the additional problem of limited use of my leg due to major surgery and weakness from my chemo meds. I feel like a sitting duck. Why is this being ignored? I really like Ford vehicles, but, shame on Ford!!!!

First the rear driver's side interior door handle broke when my granddaughter was attempting to open it. Recently the front driver's side interior door handle broke. The fake chrome is peeling off of the passenger side both front and rear door handles. It was peeling off of the two handles that broke but I never thought that they would break. Although I am able to open the window to access the exterior door handle to open the door in most cases, the windows don't always open in the cold weather and the door is very difficult to open using the broken door handle. I am concerned I or a passenger will be stuck in the vehicle and not be able to get out in an emergency.

Since we've owned our 2006 Ford Fusion we have had to replace the door handle for the passenger and both back passenger seats multiple times. Once these handles fail (randomly with no warning) they cannot be operated from the inside. This requires getting someone to open the door from the outside. We fear that in an accident we might become trapped. It's my understanding that I'm not alone with this issue with our 2006 Fusion, but Ford has yet to recall these obviously defective parts.

Driver side inner door handle cracked last year, making it difficult to open door. Ford repaired it for $302. Now the left rear inner door handle is cracked. I rarely carry passengers, so it is not due to misuse. My wife was sitting in the back seat and could not get out. Also, it now appears the front passenger handle is beginning to deteriorate. I have contacted the Ford dealership and Ford customer service and they deny responsibility and say it is outside warranty. I believe this problem could be very dangerous.

  • 30,000 miles
Approximately 3 years after purchase, chrome covering on interior door handles started peeling. In November, 2010, the rear passenger interior door handle snapped. Pieces fell out and the door cannot be opened from the inside. In March 2011, the drivers side rear interior door handle also snapped. Although the doors can still be locked by the remote, they have to be opened from the out side. This is an extreme safety issue in the event that someone needs to exit the car quickly. I have read thousands of similar complaints on-line. The dealer gave me a quote to repair but I do not have the funds. The dealer did send an inquiry to Ford on my behalf but we have heard nothing back. Ford needs to own up to this and do a recall.

Fusion 4-cyl

  • 68,700 miles
In very normal, if not gentle use the interior door handles on our 2006 Ford Fusion all broke in the latter part of 2010, with the exception of the drivers side rear door. The car has approx. 68,000 miles on it and is a known defective part that has broken in thousands of these cars as can be researched. The only way one can exit the vehicle is to leave the car running and open the window while reaching outside to use the outer door handle, then open the door and roll the window back up and then shut off the car. This presents a serious safety hazard when the occupants might have to exit the vehicle quickly to avoid imminent danger. After paying close to $6,000 for extended warranties, the dealership refused to offer replacement of any sort, stating that there had been no safety recalls on this issue. I have never been unable to exit a car normally and this truly could be a deadly issue that the manufacturer should consider the ramifications of turning a blind eye to.

Interior door handles break or crack. When attempting to open door handle broke, preventing my wife from being able to exit the vehicle without lowering the window. If she was in an accident she may not be able to exit the vehicle. Passenger side door appears cracked and is very likely to break. Paid to repair out of pocket.
