One day, while driving my 2011 Ford Fusion sel 3.0 v6, the illumination light on my dash turned on. Apparently at the time, my only option was to take it to a Ford dealer near me to be able to read the codes the computer threw with a special scan tool. Ford charged me around 100 just to read the codes and to inform me what the issue was and the procedure to fix the issue. The moment Ford told me the part alone for the electronic steering gear was an estimated $2000 dollars plus labor (around an extra $700 to $1000 including the programming of the system), my entire attitude and expression changed. They wanted to hit me with more than an arm and a leg for the repair.
I automatically cut the service advisory off and mentioned to him that Ford issued a recall for 2010-2011 Ford Fusions experiencing issues with the electronic power steering gear system, and asked him to explain to me why did i have to pay if Ford should cover the cost of the defects the vehicle has been putting me through since it had a defective part Ford installed. Can you really believe the excuse and reason Ford gave me after I went through the service advisor, then requested the service manager, and along with that called ford directly? I explained my issue with my vehicle that I had and duplicates the same faults explained in the recall Ford issued regarding electronic power steering systems for 2010-2011 ford fusions. THEY TOLD ME THAT MY VIN NUMBER DOES NOT MATCH THE SPECIFIED RECALL FORD PROVIDED FOR THE 2010-2011 FORD FUSIONS WITH ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING GEAR SYSTEMS.
What a huge slap, stomp, etc. Ford hit me with and customer service told me there was nothing they could do as well. So imagine my temper and expression and position I was at the time. I ended walking out empty handed feeling Ford pretty much screwed me for my business and slapped me with a AS IS purchase. Through time, I was driving the vehicle still with the same issue until one night it completely disabled on me to a point where i had no control of the vehicle and ended up hitting the side on my car with a parking light made of cement. I had full coverage at the time and notified my insurance and made a claim about the incident that I got into.
So now my insurance company, along with Ford, hit me with 51 percent my fault (raising my rates) and issuing me a point on my driving record for failing to not have complete control of the vehicle since its my responsibility. Can you believe that? What a hard time was I going through and still trying to fight with Ford regarding this issue. The estimated cost to repair the damage was $1500 after my deductible. I was left with no choice and forced to purchase the electronic power steering gear assembly from Ford which i couldn't believe that I still had to give them my hard earned money - but I did have a really reliable, great car and would recommend to anyone the family auto shop to remove and replace the electronic power steering system. A total parts and labor was an estimate $1700 not including the other services I decided to handle since they were working on the suspension already.
After waiting over a week to receive my car back, it felt good to have a reliable and safer car to be in but just hated the fact that it has a FORD logo on it LOL.
TO ANYONE OUT THERE READING THIS THINK TWICE ABOUT EVEN HAVING THE IDEA OR MENTIONING THE WORD FORD AND PURCHASING A VEHICLE FROM THEM.
