Dash lights go out completely or go dim for no apparent reason. If they go out completely, turning the headlights off and then back on again usually gets the instrument lights to come back on but only dim at that point. A few minutes, hours, or days later the instrument lights will brighten back up. If turning the headlights off and back on again doesn't get the instrument lights to come back on, then pulling over and turning off the ignition and restarting the engine has always gotten them to come back on (so far). When this happens, the dimmer control will have an effect, but it will not bring the lights back to full brightness.
As usual, Ford dealer cannot reproduce the problem. It seems that if there is no trouble code, then there is no problem as far as they are concerned.
