Mustang Convertible V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 46,866 miles

The problem was first detected when I bought the car 7/2012, with 44,500 miles, and reported to a Ford dealer 9/18/2012. The initial problem was the air bag light came on occasionally indicating it was not working even when an occupant sat in the seat. To my surprise the dealer indicated that this was not a covered problem since the car's general warranty wouldn't cover since the car had over 36,000 miles and this was not covered on an extended warranty.

They could not tell me specifically what the problem was when first reported and told me it would cost about $400 to remove the seat and trace the wiring to see what the problem was. Later 12/12/2014, when I reported again they indicated they were fairly certain it was the sensor since they found the same problem on similar cars. It cost me $200 to replace.

Mustang V6

  • Automatic transmission

Apparently the wiring harness for the passenger side air bag has a tendency to shift allowing it to be frayed when moving in the seat, moving seat backwards and forwards. Dealer stated no way to repair this that the entire harness/module needs to be replaced as soon as possible because it creates a safety issue if the air bag does not deploy in the event of an accident. Approximate cost is $400+. This is a 2011 mustang that has been well taken care of. Doing research on the web I noted several other people complaining of similar issue. Why is this not a possible recall?
