Mustang EcoBoost 2.3L I4

  • Manual transmission
  • 28,000 miles

Sometimes it will not change gears at all. Clutch must be let out while trying to force the shifter to slip into place. Synchronizers never seem to line up gears at any RPM, not even the ~2750 recommended shift point from Ford. Moving from park is a real pain when trying to get into reverse then back into drive. Sometimes I have to choose a different gear, then move my way to the one I need while working the clutch to try and get things to line up.

After the warranty period, I let my mechanic change out the flywheel (Fidanza), clutch plate (McLeod), and change out the fluid (Royal Purple). The problem stayed exactly the same. Would have kept this car for life, but with a clunky transmission it's a junker. I bought this used and it's always had this problem. I should have taken a more extensive test drive, because the Ford service department said all new manual Mustang transmissions have this problem.

I won't even start to talk about power problems like being unable to coast on the freeway below 2500 RPMs and having to run closer to 3000 in 5th to keep up with traffic or speed by 5 or 10 mph to get into 6th... and this is with the higher ring and pinion of the performance package (I can't even imaging how frustrated non-PP drivers must be)!

Mustang Premium 5.0L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 6,400 miles

The rough shifting seems to be centered around 4th gear... into... out of... definitely shouldn't be rough shifting in a new low mileage automobile.

Mustang GT 5.0L

  • Manual transmission
  • 11 miles

I pride myself with smooth starts and no jerks between gears. Not possible with my new Mustang GT. Have had others try too. Not possible. Other than that, a great vehicle!
