Odyssey EX-L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 5,000 miles

We bought our 2015 Odyssey a year ago and took it in for its first oil change about 3 weeks ago. We only drive the van on out of town trips, so only put about 5,000 miles/year on it. It is pristine and kept inside and has not even been driven in the winter. They called and said they found a problem - leaking oil around a head gasket. It was a warped head, which they had to plane. Significant, major engine issue. Obviously, this happened in the factory. Probably someone started it without oil in it or something. We don't know what other damage there might be to the engine or how hot it got, etc.

They fixed it under warranty, of course. But we don't want the van since we don't know what problems may arise in the future, and we know it was sold to us that way. We want a different van, but the dealer tried to give us $3,000 under book on our van to trade in for a new one and wouldn't give us the time of day and pretty much said "here's the deal - take it or leave it". No interest in helping us at all. Honda Corporation told us they would fix the van as long as it is under warranty (no brainer), but would not help at all either.

We don't feel we should have to eat several thousand dollars to get rid of the van, when obviously it was sold to us that way. Honda should stand behind their product and since they sold us a defective product, they need to replace it. The dealer in Ames (Honda of Ames) is not interested in helping, but they sure want to make some more money off of us.
