Grand Cherokee Laredo 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 20,000 miles

I have a 2014 Grand Cherokee. When I start the ignition, the transmission goes from park to neutral then to park in a very quick and sudden move making a noisy sound, and the car moves as if someone hit you from the back. This is done every day in the morning when the car is cold. In other conditions when the car is hot, it does the same but with less noise and vibration. I visited the dealer and they changed a part called body valve two times with no success. Then they updated the software two times also with no success.

I just purchased a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I love it!! The previous owners took really good care of it. One thing I am noticing is that it jumps harder into low gears when I first use it in the morning. When warmed up it runs great! It has over 70,000 miles on it.

I have a 60 day drive train warranty because newly purchased. Is there something that I should have fixed?

Grand Cherokee Limited 3.6L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 47,000 miles

The shifter was replaced 6 months ago for the same type of problem at the dealership. When you shift into reverse, the shifter automatically jumps back into the drive mode. The vehicle seems like to want to go into reverse initially but immediately changes to drive mode. Also last week when in drive mode, the vehicle refused to move initially but then suddenly started to work normal.

Grand Cherokee Limited V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 29,000 miles

Besides not shifting from 7th to 8th gear the car also shifts hard between 1 - 2 - 3 and 4 gear specially when the transmission is cold. I had the car at the dealer five times already. They had an engineer from Jeep test drive it and checked the codes but he found nothing wrong They where looking for the problem at the same time as other problem, once they had the car for a week, but found nothing wrong.

Any suggestions?

Grand Cherokee Limited V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 30,000 miles

Sometimes the transmission will not shift from 7th to 8th gear even going 80 mph. I had the car at the dealer four or five times already. They had a engineer from Jeep test drive it and he also checked the codes. Since everything was up to date and while driving he did not notice anything unusual I was told that there is nothing that they can do. I was told to keep driving until it gets worse and then bring it back. Besides not shifting from 7th to 8th gear the car also shifts hard between 1 - 2 - 3 and 4 gear specially when the transmission is cold. They where looking for the problem at the same time as other problem, once they had the car for a week, but found nothing wrong.

Grand Cherokee Limited V6

  • Automatic transmission

The second time driving the Jeep in the morning it would not shift out of 1st gear (8 speed automatic) and the check engine light came on. Drove to the shoulder and turned the Jeep off and restarted - transmission shifted ok but check engine light stayed on.

Called the Jeep dealer (was just serviced two days earlier at 37,000 miles) and was told will see you in a week (car is under power train warranty).

Grand Cherokee Limited 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 32,000 miles

Transmission often sticks in 1st gear when taking off from a stop. This is ONLY remedied by shifting the transmission into sport mode then back out. I feel that this will cause premature wear on the transmission, and is symptomatic of a computer problem. I have not yet addressed this with the dealer but will be this week.

Grand Cherokee Limited V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 20,000 miles

Vehicle was having issues shifting into 3rd gear and then 4th. We were towing a trailer at the time of the transmission getting "stuck" and not being able to move into any other gear than 3rd. This caused a jerking motion inside the jeep along with terrible noises. We ultimately were able to "restart" 3 times afterwards and it performed as usual. We brought it in and the service updated the shifter software (recall) and said the gear ratio was off on 3rd. One month later and the issue for 3rd is still not resolved, but it now has issues with reverse. Reverse now moves into neutral at whim. Another shop visit next week. Mileage is 23500.

Grand Cherokee Limited 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 29,000 miles

Sticks in First or Second gear randomly. Dealer was not able to reproduce the problem. Bought the car used just before the warranty ran out so only able to take it in twice. This has an 8 speed transmission - best option so far is to use Sport mode - 33 grand for this? All indications are that its a computer problem. I could see where you need to pull out fast and be into real trouble!!!!!

Will not buy another Jeep -

Grand Cherokee Limited 3.2L V6

  • CVT transmission
  • 500 miles

On at least 5 occasions, while driving I feel the engine racing, and when looking down, I see that the transmission has slipped into the "Sport" mode, requiring shifting manually with the "paddle shifters" on the steering wheel. I then have to shift to neutral, and then back to Drive. Once, I brought it directly to Smithhaven Jeep dealer, but was told that since no "fault" light had come on, they couldn't track the problem.

Grand Cherokee Overland V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 20,150 miles

Problem occurred initially while driving at 60-70 mph on the interstate. Went to accelerate and vehicle changed gears but then when I eased off the accelerator the transmission hung in the lower gear. Tried flooring it, but transmission hesitated 2-3 seconds before changing. Problem repeated several times during trip. Got home and had the same problem several days later at lower speeds, 35-45 mph. Suspect something electronic rather than mechanical, but just a WAG at this point. Service department is next step.

Grand Cherokee SRT 6.4L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 25,280 miles

transmission shifter will not move with normal pressure

The vehicle will not shift; the shifter feels "stuck". If more pressure is applied, a "crunching noise" happens (think stepping on packing peanuts) and then the shifter functions normally. No change if vehicle was in cold temperatures, on a hill with parking brake, etc.

Taken to dealership for warranty work.

Jeep lunges when it shifts gears. No matter how slow you drive it, the Jeep has a lunges when its going through the gears up to speed. I told the dealer an they said that they don't have it happen for them when they checked it......(I bet they checked it).....It seems to smooth out when you run the Jeep for an hour. Then it seems to smooth out the engine sifting thru gear to get up to speed limit.............terrible.....

Constant jerking is annoying and awful on my back!

Update from Oct 11, 2015: The dealership, Jack Phalen in Countryside Illinois, updated the software to address the issue. Additionally, they updated the radio software to address a 'recall' issue which I was not aware of before. The car rides well and it seems the jerking issue has been resolved.

i just bought my 2014 Jeep Lorado , or whatever it's called. Had it for 2 weeks and transmission is jerking in lower gears, it's like a push or something. It's dangerous and needs to be fixed. I did purchase a lifetime warranty, but from post on hear dosn't look like there's a fix . This is my first Jeep ever and if it fails me or no recall I will not buy another. It's a very very very nice Jeep but the transmission is pissing me off so soon. I thought Jeep was quality, but I guess I was wrong. Wish I would have known. I will be taking it in to see if there is updates for the fix. But if there, is why would the sell it to me without it? Come on Jeep.

Grand Cherokee Limited V6

The tranny shifts poorly. There is a flat spot when going to accelerate on an evasive maneuver. At times the tranny bangs into gears. It almost feels as if the tranny doesn't know what gear it should be in. The tech did a ride along with me and he observed the condition. The tech said the vehicle was operating as designed. The dealership had performed some computer updates however this did not correct this problem. At times this could be a very dangerous problem as the car will not accelerate when in a dangerous situation.

I spoke to several 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee owners who report the same experience.

The manager at the dealership, Dutchess Jeep is fully aware of this problem.

Jeep has done absolutely nothing to address this problem.

Update from Sep 2, 2015: My tranny is starting to bang into gears and is jerking between gears. I noticed that other people wrote complaints about this issue.
Chrysler has refused to address the tranny problems with the 2104 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I owned a 2009 Grand Cherokee Overland with the 5.7 Hemi Engine. This was a great vehicle. My 2005 Jeep Wrangler with the 4.0 engine and 6 speed manual tranny was great. Too bad they didn't keep a good thing when that had it. The 2014 can't compare to the 2009. Never again will I purchase a Chrysler product.

Grand Cherokee Laredo 3.6L Vvt

  • Automatic transmission
  • 1,000 miles

The transmission clunks when it changes. It changes to soon when starting off (goes from low through the first 3 or 4 gears before you even get rolling). When slowing down to stop it will shift from 8th to 3rd or 4th. When shifting into Reverse or Drive it just clunks. This problem has been with the vehicle since we first got it. We have had it at the Jeep Dealership 6 times trying to get it fixed. They keep saying it's a software problem(?). They flash it and reflash it, and nothing ever works.

It's in the shop now. They had it 3 days about 2 weeks ago and after that period of time they hadn't done anything. We put it in on Wednesday and nothing had been touched. They told us that they needed to order parts (transmission control module, something else), and that it would a week to get them. I called them last Thursday and asked if the part was in, and they said "Oh, yeah. We forgot to call you." I said can I bring it in tomorrow (Friday)? No. They were much too busy and to bring in on Monday and they would get right to it. Well, I took it in yesterday (Monday) morning (7:30am) and called them at around 5pm and they still hadn't touched it. Said they would get on it first thing this morning. Haven't heard anything. Still waiting...

I am very frustrated with the transmission. But, also the dealer service stinks.

Grand Cherokee Limited 4x4 V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 2,317 miles

After just over 2000 miles driven I began to notice jerking when shifting at low miles from costing in the parking lot or street under 5 miles per hour. The gear would thump and clunk into 2nd like someone kicking your car's rear bumper. Took the car in to the dealer and they acknowledged the problem and told me they fixed it. Within weeks it started again.

Took it back into another dealer more closer by. Mechanic drove the car around for 40+ miles and said he re-calibrated the transmission. Racked up my miles and no difference as I noticed next time driving around in parking lot. Took it back in again and this time they said they re-flashed the transmission software based on latest service bulletins. This problem is known issue with multiple service bulletins out in Chrysler Jeep website and people have been complaining about the exact issue. I thought after the re-flash of software it was fixed but no. Soon as I was driving at low speeds the "clunk" was there again.

I'm going to take this in one more time, my 4th time, to fix this issue as it is required before I can consult and hire a lemon lawyer. This is a clunker. Not to mention coke can crushing sound that comes from rear each time I back out from my driveway in the morning. That's another issue. It's not a matter of car not moving but this annoying "clunk" is unacceptable for new vehicle. At 2317 miles at first visit I will get back more than 99% of the cost of this car.

The performance was starting to get worse on downshifts and hanging on up shifts. Then it started to throw the Jeep forward, like someone rear ended you. That happened under 7mph. Brought it to Metro in Chicopee, MA and they said it functioned like normal. Really?

Brought it to another Jeep dealer and they did a flash to the ECM and all was good. Performs like brand new again.

Great Job other dealer!
