My windshield has been impacted by objects from the roadway twice and has had to be replaced each time. The first incident was in April 2019, when a chunk of ice flew off a vehicle ahead of mine and nearly shattered the entire windshield. This windshield was replaced. The replacement windshield was impacted by a small road rock while operating the vehicle in December 2020, resulting in a golf ball-sized puncture down to the adhesive sheet. Even the safelite tech remarked at the level of damage and was unable to salvage the windshield. I have never seen a road rock cause that much damage to a windshield, and I don't think there's ever been a vehicle I've owned that hasn't taken a rock at one point or another. It's unavoidable. What is not unavoidable is the clearly defective nature of these windshields. I no longer feel safe behind the wheel. That windshield will protect nothing in a high-impact situation.

We were driving and had a very small rock chip in the window. Within the next 30 minutes the windshield had cracked the entire from the top side of the crack all the way to the side of the windshield and cracked on the bottom all the way to the bottom side of the window. So what should have been an easy rock chip repair quickly changed to needing the whole windshield replaced at almost $1,000. The chip occurred while we were going about 30 miles an hour just getting on the on ramp to I-55 at mm 100 in springfield il.

This is the second time this Ascent's windshield has cracked for no apparent reason. The first time was within 60 days of purchase; it was replaced with a oem windshield by Subaru. There was no observed object impact in either case. The attached photo is of the second crack which was noticed today.

4 days after purchasing my Ascent I was on the freeway and a passing vehicle threw up a rock and hit the windshield. It was so small that normally it could have been fixed but instead it broke the windshield from the driver side view all the way over to the passenger side. The whole windshield had to be replaced at a cost of $1200 for the windshield and had to be re-calibrated at the dealership for an additional cost of $300. Here I am a year later and the same thing has happened again. Exact same spot on the drivers side where a tiny rock flew up and again cracked the windshield from the driver side all the way over to the passenger side. This is clearly a defect in the glass manufacturer that Subaru is using for their vehicles and its a costly one

A crack formed in the windshield while driving starting on the left side of the vehicle, where the windshield meets the car frame. We were driving on the freeway going straight, at approx 75mph and there were no other cars around when it crack started to form. There was no rock/ item that had hit the car. In less that 24 hours, the crack grew to be 3/4 across the entire windshield. There was no area that looked like a "point of impact" and there was no "star". when speaking to the dealership, they said that many windshields these days have been cracking easier than normal, that they haven't been made well the last few years. No one at Subaru informed me out this when I was buying the car, and the model and year have been added to a list of known vehicles with windshield issues.

I have had this vehicle almost 1 year. The windshield got a chip and small "spidering" happened - photo 1. then I was driving in the rain and a rock, I'm assuming, dinged the windshield. Didn't notice anything but it was raining. The next morning I look at the windshield and there is a big crack - photo 2. to replace this, because of eyesight, is approx. $2000! no windshield should be this sensitive. There is a problem!! my 2 previous Subaru, 2012 impreza and 2013 forester weathered rock chips like total troopers! this Ascent, not so much!

We had a rock hit our dashboard while we were pulling coming off an on-ramp onto an interstate and resulted in a small chip. Within an hour of driving it after the chip a crack resulted outward to the driver side of the window to the frame and down towards the hood to the frame. This quickly impaired our vision and made it difficult to drive. The windshield was not repairable and we spent about $950 out of pocket to repair the windshield as it had to be ordered through the dealership. On a side note after the repair the rain sense windshield wipers stopped working after the windshield repair and neither the glass shop that did the windshield replacement nor the dealership under warranty would take ownership of this issue and would not fix the defective item.

I bought the car new. 2-3 months later I went on vacation and came back to a huge crack in the windshield that spontaneously appeared in my heated garage without an associated chip. It gradually expanded but I waited until after winter to replace to avoid additional chips in the winter. 2-3 months after I replaced for $700 while driving again a spontaneous crack appeared before my eyes starting at the edge and moving down without any apparent rock hitting it prior. Since then 3 additional cracks have appeared largely covering my windshield. I live in Alaska and have for years. I have 4 vehicles and this one is just driven around town. The Suburban windshield is covered in chips but never in my 20+ years of car ownership of 20 or so various cars have seen a windshield that cracks to this extent without large rocks even hitting it. These cracks are not a chip from a rock that expands. There is clearly a flaw with this windshield. First time I was like huh weird. Second windshield with same exact problem, there is clearly an issue. Dealer is telling me tough cookies lady. These windshields are like 1000$ to replace with the recalibration required.
