2008 Highlander was in great condition, and serviced regularly by Toyota Service. Was driving on a quiet street, waiting for a light to turn green. There was no indication that there was a problem except that the passenger in the car in front of me jumped out the car and screamed. I looked and saw some smoke, and looked at my front panel for any indication of overheating. Nothing registered a problem. I got out of my car, and the car was on fire. A resident came with a fire extinguisher and got as much as she could contained so that I could get my purse. The car proceeded to ignite, pieces of plastic were oozing onto the road, burning the asphalt. The fire engines came and it took about half hour to contain the fire. The car was totaled.

The car had one more year on its extended warranty; Toyota has refused to help because the cause of the fire was destroyed by fire, so they will do nothing. This is the key to my anger.

This could have been a lot worse as I had chosen the residential street and not the really busy street that runs parallel to it. It could have been a fireball but the lady with the fire extinguisher stemmed the tie until the Fire Department came;
