328 4-cyl Diesel

  • 110,000 miles
I have a 2014, 328D X-drive. I'm the original owner. I have taken my car into the dealer several times for a engine light and the smell of exhaust fumes when I start the car. The exhaust fumes are very bad. If I start it with the air system at off I will not get it. This is only at a stand still and the worst when the cars started. The dealer has done over $4000 in repairs and have replaced many fuel injectors. One of the repairs the manifold melted to the fuel injectors and they replaced all. I'm still getting the fumes. Very disappointed BMW customer service is horrible. They only tell me to see my dealer. They say they will start a report. Nothing has been done and I'm stuck with a car I like very much but need help getting exhaust from entering the cabin from the engine area.

328 4-cyl Diesel

  • 140,000 miles
I received a letter from BMW stating an egr cooler recall was issued for my vehicle. I took the vehicle into bellevue BMW after smelling diesel inside the passenger cabin. They kept the vehicle over night and had me rent a vehicle while they kept the car overnight. Upon returning I was told that my egr cooler did in fact need replacing. I was informed that they would not be fixing the problem at that time because they had a catchy legal blind to hide behind. ' no remedy at this time'. the simple truth is they could of sold me the new egr cooler. But they chose not to do that either. I asked the service adviser if it was safe to drive and he assured me it was. As it turns out he lied to me. A short time later the while driving on the interstate the intake manifold caught fire. There was smoke and a black soot bellowing out from behind the car and when I got pulled off the road large amounts of thick black smoke billowed out from under the hood. I called for a tow truck and had it repaired at an approved repair facility. $2400 later the car was back on the road for a short time. A short while later I got to work and noticed a loud clicking sound from the engine. Took the car back to bellevue BMW and they tried to tell me the shop where I was getting my oil changes done were not changing my oil. This deliberate attempt to misdirect fault from knowingly putting me in a position to be harmed from deceitful business practices and blatant disregard for my safety is truly disturbing and woefully disappointing. Glibly I was told it would cost $26000 to replace the engine yet nothing like an actual paper repair estimate was produced. Are these people just making this stuff up as they go along? my hope is that other people can read this and file more complaints. After reading about all the lawsuits and chicanery I can honestly say I would never of bought this car.

Smelling exhaust engine light came on. Took to BMW dealer they said my fuel injectors were leaking and have melted to the manifold. I asked and made a complaint with BMW after spending $3300. Thaey also mentioned there was no fix for the egr cooler recall. I asked if this caused my fuel injector manifold problem they say no. Engine light cake on recently also smelling fuel again while driving. They replaced #1 injector. Drove it for two weeks and engine light returned. Took it back to the dealer they said they are waiting for a exhaust cooler. I have had a loner for a week now. One I hope I will not get charged again. Two did this cause my initial problem I do not know. There is a problem they didn't fix and I feel it's costing me lots of money.

I got a cel and dropped it off at the dealer. They said it was to the active scr tank. After research I found out a lot of BMW vehicles have the item fail. The 328D is not on the list of extended warranties. Are there many 328D's that fail?

I started my car on October 23, 2019, driving down the street I noticed a loud noise and when I stopped the car was shaking, I turned around and when back home, had the car towed to the dealer. The dealer said I needed a new engine due to "lack of lubrication". I was then informed it would cost me $16,800. We have 125K miles on a diesel engine! I was told there were metal flakes in the oil and no one can tell me what failed in the engine. I have followed all of the required services and had all of the recalls done which were many. We have the fuel system replaced, after the car completed stalled and had to have it towed, luckily there was a recall on that. Since we have had the fuel system replaced we have had nothing but problems, we were sold a lemon, and the BMW cooperate office will not do anything, and I was informed they only warranty their cars to 50K. Now I am out a car that I paid 50K for 5 years ago. There were no warning lights regarding the engine, and when oil was checked all levels were good.

While driving home from work my car began to smoke and make a hissing noise about 1 block from my house. I made it home and noticed the smoke coming from the engine area. I imediately sprayed some water on it just incase there was a fire. There was also a smell of burnin plastic. I observed the car for a few hours and waited for it to cool down. When looking at the engine I noticed that there was a melted hole in my intake manifold. And my map sensor had melted. While researching the cause I noticed that this is caused by the egr valve. I searched BMW North americe recall site and put in my VIN#. it did not show a recall for the egr valve even though there is a recall number of 18V755000 egr valve identifying the 2014 BMW 328D. I called BMW North America and spoke to them about my issue and it did not show my car having any recalls. There seems to be a disconnect if the VIN I provided to BMW North America and NHTSA does not show any recalls for my vehicle. This is a

Exhaust gas recirculation (egr) cooler recall: Contacted BMW customer relations as per recall letter from BMW of N.a. via email and they left a voice mail that parts have not been available. Recall status also has been stating - "remedy not yet available". recall was made in Oct 25, 2018 and it is nearing 6 months but no solution or repair process has been initiated. Letter states possibility of increased risk of fire could occur if engine intake manifold has small holes due to failure of egr. Currently no problem has occurred but feeling of driving on borrowed luck and time is not a safe one. Thank you for your help.

Carbon monoxide inside the car is way too high with the egr cooler leaking issue not being fixed yet. It's been 3 months now and the air quality inside the car is soo bad that I am getting headache from the soot and co gas coming out of ac vent. I did a service today and even after replacing the microfilter and another filter, the problem still persists. The degraded air quality contains hazardous gas and can cause dizziness which could lead to fatal accidents at higher speed. I kindly request that BMW repurchase this vehicle from me as soon as possible, before I could get into any sort of accident. The egr cooler issue could also lead to car fire (which is definitely something I don't want to happen.) thank you.
