While driving home from work my car began to smoke and make a hissing noise about 1 block from my house. I made it home and noticed the smoke coming from the engine area. I imediately sprayed some water on it just incase there was a fire. There was also a smell of burnin plastic. I observed the car for a few hours and waited for it to cool down. When looking at the engine I noticed that there was a melted hole in my intake manifold. And my map sensor had melted. While researching the cause I noticed that this is caused by the egr valve. I searched BMW North americe recall site and put in my VIN#. it did not show a recall for the egr valve even though there is a recall number of 18V755000 egr valve identifying the 2014 BMW 328D. I called BMW North America and spoke to them about my issue and it did not show my car having any recalls. There seems to be a disconnect if the VIN I provided to BMW North America and NHTSA does not show any recalls for my vehicle. This is a

Exhaust gas recirculation (egr) cooler recall: Contacted BMW customer relations as per recall letter from BMW of N.a. via email and they left a voice mail that parts have not been available. Recall status also has been stating - "remedy not yet available". recall was made in Oct 25, 2018 and it is nearing 6 months but no solution or repair process has been initiated. Letter states possibility of increased risk of fire could occur if engine intake manifold has small holes due to failure of egr. Kindly please help with this untimely and unreasonable time period of repair lingering without any safety for the driver of this car. Currently no problem has occurred but feeling of driving on borrowed luck and time is not a safe one. Thank you for your help.

Carbon monoxide inside the car is way too high with the egr cooler leaking issue not being fixed yet. It's been 3 months now and the air quality inside the car is soo bad that I am getting headache from the soot and co gas coming out of ac vent. I did a service today and even after replacing the microfilter and another filter, the problem still persists. The degraded air quality contains hazardous gas and can cause dizziness which could lead to fatal accidents at higher speed. I kindly request that BMW repurchase this vehicle from me as soon as possible, before I could get into any sort of accident. The egr cooler issue could also lead to car fire (which is definitely something I don't want to happen.) thank you. I received a recall letter dated December 2018 stating that my car is being recalled for the exhaust gas recirculation cooler. It states that the egr cooler could develop an internal leak. The cooling fluid could mix with the diesel engine soot & may result in smoldering particles. The particles could come in contact with the engine intake manifold and create small holes increasing the risk of a fire. The letter states that there is no remedy available yet. I called BMW corporate on 1/3/19 after I received the letter & they said there's nothing they could do. They recommended I call around to different BMW dealers & see if they have a plan put in place for this recall. They said since the dealers are privately owned, they cant make them do anything about the recall. I called freehold BMW & Edison BMW & they said there's nothing that can be done & that I need to wait for the parts to be available. I travel 45-60 mins each way back & forth to work on the NJ turnpike so since receipt of this letter, I've been taking my wife's car, which is a lease, in fear of my car catching fire. I'm making payments on a car that neither myself nor my wife feel safe driving & I don't think it's fair. I'm forced to leave my pregnant wife & our 3 year old daughter home without a safe vehicle to drive. I called the NHTSA on 1/3/19 & spoke to beau. I explained the situation. He took down all of the information & gave me a reference number. Ref# 159562. He advised that if BMW doesn't offer me a resolution in a timely manner, to file a complaint. Although I received the letter in December 2018, when I checked the website provided on the letter (safercar.gov), the recall was issued on October 25, 2018. Please advise what my next step to resolving this matter should be. Thank you for your time.

Egr valve on 2014 328D BMW : engine light has gone on repeatedly after each engine repair. Reported engine coolant had to be refilled before first repair. First repair consisted of 2 sensors for nox and 1 filtered air pipe. Engine light on again and found hole in melted intake manifold which was replaced. Engine light reappeared again. Owner suspects egr cooler leaking internally mixing with diesel engine soot. Told this to service tech at BMW of ocala and reported also to BMW of North America. Looking to be reimbursed for past faulty engine repairs and asking for recall on vehicle for this engine failure with potential for death and fire hazards. Engine fault on screen message said" drive moderately. Maximum drive train output not available. Consult service center"( which I did and still has not fixed it properly).

While driving at 65 mph or so the vehicle's on-board message center read "drive-train malfunction". I pressed on the accelerator and there was no response. The vehicle was loosing momentum quite quickly which required me to swiftly, but safely to pull over to the roadway edge. This is the third time the issue has presented itself. The first time was a few months from purchasing the vehicle. The dealer found metal shavings in the fuel lines. They replaced the entire fuel system and sent me off. A few months later I took the vehicle in for service I.e. oil change, inspection, etc. While inspecting my car they again found metal shavings in the fuel lines. They again replaced the entire fuel system and said it was fixed. Just this weekend September 30, 2018, I was driving my vehicle on the freeway and again the car went limp. No power, limited steering control, no response from accelerator. Essentially a catastrophic event because without power a vehicle is a rolling projectile. According to the dealership the vehicle once again has metal shavings in the fuel system. Total count for replacing fuel system (3).

Egr valve locked open, as sediment accumulated in the vacuum line from the leaking of anti-freeze into the valve. Manifold developed holes, as the egr overheated due the valve locking open. The smell of anti-freeze and diesel filled the car as smoke started coming from the engine, while I was driving on the freeway. Had to have the manifold replaced, as the manifold had four holes in it, and the egr valve vacuum line had to be cleared. Reported the issue to kuni BMW, who never reported the issue and warned me to not drive the car in the condition that it was in before the repair. Kuni also said that they had never heard of an egr valve issue and anti-freeze causing sediment to plug the vacuum line. This is the same issue that BMW has had to issue a recall for 2015-2017 models in europe and S. Korea. Kuni BMW knew of the recalls in S. Korea and europe when they talked to me. I am reporting this to ntsb, as BMW na told me that they had only made a informal report to ntsb, and they felt it was not a major issue. My car almost caught on fire and burned, while my pregnant wife and daughter were riding with me, but kuni refused to report it and BMW didn't consider it a big issue. Sad. Bavarian autoworks in vancouver, wa did the repair work. Recall should be extended to the 2014 models. As of today, I have reached out to the local news anchor on fox 12, as she also has a 2014 BMW diesel.
