The fuel pump has gone out on my 2003 Chevy Cavalier (79,000 miles) 4 times in 4 months!

Related to NHTSA action number EA07015 my daughter was driving her 2003 Chevy Cavalier on the interstate hwy. 43 when the engine stalled. She was able to make it safely to the shoulder of the road. The fuel pump assembly had to be replaced.

Car stalled while driving on interstate. Not a very good situation to be in. 60,000 miles purchased brand new. Fuel pump replacement and towing costs. Stranded on major interstate. Very unsafe conditions. What a poor product. Evidently this is notorious for the 03 Chevy Cavalier. Thanks GM. Where is the recall?

Our daughter was driving our car when the motor suddenly died. She was lucky to be able to get off the highway safely. I had our repair shop tow the car for repair. Bill: $706. Part: Fuel pump/unit. It is a good thing that she was not on the interstate. These fuel pumps are defective and represent a danger to the occupants of these cars. GM needs to be made to initiate a recall!

While at the dealer, the contact attempted to place the gear into park, but it would not turn over. The dealer stated that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. Fuel pump appears to be a problem with everyone I have talked to on 2003 Chevrolet Cavaliers before 100,000. I have a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier now and wondered if a recall on this can be enforced. This is a very common problem with this car and year. NHTSA is loaded with complaints regarding this, but no recall enforced yet. Can this be done? thank you.

Fuel pump failed at 62,000 miles, maintained by new car dealer. I strongly suggest an investigation into the rate of failure of fuel pumps for this model after speaking to several mechanics at the GM service center.

The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier. While driving 30 mph, the vehicle shut off in the middle of the road without warning. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and they stated that the fuel pump failed and made the replacement. A few days after the repair, the headlights stopped working and the electrical system was rewired. Recently, the engine failed and the vehicle was towed to the dealer. The contact does not yet know the cause of the failure and the vehicle is still at the dealer for repair. The failure mileage was 73,000. Updated 06/16/08

I was on my way to work during a heavy traffic time. As I was attempting to cross 2 lanes of traffic to turn left, my car stalled while I was in the middle of the oncoming lanes. It would not start again. Luckily there was no one behind me so I was able to get out of my car and push it back to the street that I was turning from. The car would not turn over. A tow truck was called to take my car to the repair shop. After paying $570 and only 50,000 miles I had a new fuel pump put in the car.
