My 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier started to stall on the I-5 freeway in san diego California. I managed to coast to an exit ramp where my car completely stalled at the bottom of the ramp in the middle of a lane. I had to call and have my car towed to the dealership. It was the dealership that determined the fuel pump was faulty and needed to be replaced. It was replaced and has been fine since. This repair cost me approximately $800.

I was driving my car down a busy street. When I slowed down to stop at a red light, my car stalled out on me. Fortunately, I was able to restart it, but within less than 30 seconds, it stalled out again. I was fortunate enough to be able to pull into a parking lot and out of the way of other cars. However, at that point, the car would not start up again. I had to have the car towed and the fuel and air filter replaced. Beyond that, I was told the fuel gauge did not read correctly. The car ran fine after that, but a couple of weeks later the car stalled out again. I've been told I need a new fuel pump. Amazing...the car is only 5 years old!

2003 Chevy Cavalier suddenly loss power on major street. My daughter was driving and toddler grandson was riding in his car seat in the back seat. Thankfully no one was behind her to rear end her and she was near the police station so a police officer assisted her off of the road. The fuel pump was replaced the following day at the cost of $557. The vehicle only has 40K miles. I've never replaced a fuel pump on any car that I've ever owned even those that I kept long enough to have 4 times that number of miles. After researching and finding that too many owners of this make, model and year have had this problem for it to be incidental I am filing this complaint as well.

The first incident occurred while I was at highway speed using cruise control. The engine began to lope badly, the car lost velocity and slowed, then revved back up and continued on. The next time I had an issue, the car would not start. The starter would click, but there was an ignition issue. Reliable Chevrolet (dallas) reported that the fuel pump had failed. They replaced it for $900 including lifetime warranty on the part, then the next week an ignition sensor failed. This was replaced free-of-charge for missing it on the diagnostic.

I own a 2003 Chevy Cavalier. Lately when I would be slowing down or stopping the car felt like it was going to stall. @ days ago it felt the same while I was driving. It felt like the car wouldn't accelerate when I pushed on the gas. Then it died while I was driving so I immediately pulled into a parking lot off the road. The car wanted to start but would not stay running. I had it towed to my house. The car doctor came to my house and said it is the fuel pump and needs to be replaced. Cost was $760.

Just filled up car full tank of gas driving down interstate with no warning car died going 65 luckily I was able to coast over 2 lanes without being hit. This is a real problem with the fuel pump and something needs done before someone gets killed! I have 79,000 miles on car and with all the other complaints ive seen I plan on selling this piece of crap and buy something more trustworthy I was stranded for almost 2 hours in the cold waiting on tow truck. Now I have too see how much this will cost me tomorrow when it should of been recalled in the first place. Wtf!!!!

The vehicle was towed to the repair shop and they replaced the fuel pump system at the contact's expense. The repair cost approximately $880. The manufacturer has not been notified. 2003 Cavalier about 80,000 km on it and the fuel pump went without warning on a fairly busy road at an intersection, and I had my child in the car as well, we had to leave the car sitting on the busy road until it got picked up. There was no warning at all. I just thank goodness that this had not happened on the highway going 110K an hour because me an my family may not be sitting here right now(and I had just had 2 long highway trips within the prior 2 weeks) they need to recall and I want my money back, like $800.

I have a 2003 Chevy Cavalier and it has less than 50,000 miles on it. About a week ago, it just quit on me. Turns out it was the fuel pump. Not only do I have the inconvenience and cost of having to replace it, but it is not an easy thing to replace. You have to completely drop the fuel tank. Most newer cars have another (easier) way to do it, but not the Cavalier.

After driving the car to the store, I returned to attempt to start the car, it stuttered and I tried again. Car would not start, after inspecting intake I noticed antifreeze and oil in it. I called for a tow and a diagnostic from a shop to find that I had 30psi in cylinders 2,3 and 170 in cyl 1 and 4. I now had a blown head gasket. After having it repaired, went to start the car to give symptoms of a bad fuel pump. Car now has 71,000 miles. 3 days after buying a new Impala. Perhaps Chevy is not the best brand to commit to.

On Friday night I parked my car as I usually do and on Monday morning at 7:00 am it started fine. After dropping off my eight year old son at the before care of his school, I drove 2.73 miles and my car went completely dead and the lights turned on after applying slightly more pressure on the gas pedal going not more than 30 mph in a 35 zone in order to go up a slight, hardly noticeable incline and my mileage had just reached 83,934. I was on the left hand side of the road without a side to pull over to and luckily there was no car in the right hand lane because I barely had enough time to move over into the right hand lane and as far to the side as I possibly could. Here I was now with my two year old daughter stuck near another school where parents were hurriedly trying to drop off their children and traffic was building up around me quickly. I had to get out of my car and try to push my car as far out of the way as possible (I am only a 119 lbs girl so of course I did not make it far). My husband was still sleeping and he did not hear my frantic calls, so I had to call a girl that lived across town who I worked with to request her to pick-up my two year old daughter, call a tow-truck to request them to come and get my car out the commuters way asap, and I then wrote a note, put it on the windshield of the car with my cell # stating that I walked to safeway which was 1.71 miles back down the street in order to meet my ride as we were not in a safe area and I was afraid of the angry people trying to drive around us as fast as possible and my two year old baby was upset. A few minutes after we walked into the safeway, a police office who had read my note called me, told me that I had done the right thing, and made sure that we didn't need a ride and we were okay. Five minutes later my ride picked us up, took us to my car where we waited for the tow truck, and then helped guide the tow truck to my home. Tow bill was $78 & will be $554 + to get this repaired.

There was a total failure of the fuel pump while the car was in operation on a busy road at rush hour. The car suddenly loss power and stalled while driving. Solely due to pure luck, I had not yet entered onto the local interstate highway and did not have an accident. The car was towed to the Chevrolet dealership and the fuel pump had to be replaced. The car was no longer under GM warranty and the total cost of repair to me was over $800.
