The 2.4L ecotec engine in Chevy terain and Equinox from 2010-2013 has a known issue with the piston rings which causes extreme oil consumption which damages the rest of the engine. Instead of issuing a nationwide recall of these faulty engines, they pushed it over to the nhtsb to issue the recall. They expect owners of these vehicles to pay thousands of dollars in repairs for their known faulty engine. Chevrolet/GM was sued over this by vehicle owners to get reimbursed for their expenses and extended their warranty to 120,000 miles, but vehicle owners weren't notified. They have no plans or way to notify owners who are not the original owners, used car dealers, or people who purchase these vehicles from private sale.

The make and model I own is now under a special recall for oil consumption. I've tried taking it to the dealer (michael Chevrolet of fresno) and they said that the issue was, 'normal honey'. I then called GMC where I was given a specialist named 'genevieve' who hasn't returned my multiple calls for help on getting the problem fixed. I have taken my car to a third party who has documented their is an oil consumption issue and have taken those results to the dealer and bar. Still GMC is not fixing the issue. The vehicle was taken to john jones auto group corydon 1735 gardner ln nw, corydon, in 47112, (812) 722-4146) where an oil consumption test was performed and it was determined that the vehicle used 2 quarts of oil per 1,000 miles driven. The dealer stated that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case. The approximate failure mileage was 128,000.

Motor when I got it they told me they did have it check and there as no recalls on it. I drive it for about a moth an the motor stated to make a ticketing nose check the oil an it was about around a 1,000 miles it needed an oil change when I had it change it look like it had not been change in a long time. An around the same time again I check the oil again it was a low again so I had it change again this time the oil filter look good it to look the first time, like it had not been change. Then it started skipping and like it did want to stay crack up like it wanted to cut off on, it still doing it hardly ever drive it then the transmission started to act up I started to have it not wanting to change gears but then it stop. It does it now sometimes. I'll check the time and it usually slow than want it supposed to be, also the locks do not work most off the time when I push the button most of the time an also the car want start sometimes in the morning when I go to crack it up with the key. I been having problems with the air conditioner, first the freon went out the first time I use it, also then it started to make nose when I turn around are turn a corner and the freon would turn a corner then it started to leak inside the car when I was standing at a stop signal would stop leaking so much when I would go that just started I finally looked up recalls an seen that all these things were in a recall of May 19, 2019 I bought my car in Oct 19, 2019. They said they were no recalls, but when I looked it recalls it had every thing wrong with it that all the recalls was on there an a few extras' they also sued and they do not put my car in the problems areas.

My husband put oil in engine and less than 1,000 miles later, no oil registered on the dip stick. This is the third time we have had to add oil. I spoke to a friend who also has an Equinox and she has been having the same problem. We both took our vehicles to a mechanic the mechanic said this is common in equinoxes. There is 143,500 miles on my vehicle and less miles on my friend's. I have paperwork showing oil changes every 3,000 miles since new. This should not be happening.

While having the engine disassembled to replace faulty piston assemblies that caused excessive oil consumption it was found the high pressure fuel pump was leaking. It was also found that the exhaust manifold was cracked and the O2 sensor and catalytic converter was worn sufficiently to warrant replacement. It was commented that the fuel in the lubricating oil due to the leaking high pressure fuel pump likely enriched the exhaust via the PCV system to overheat the exhaust manifold, O2 sensor and converter. Total cost of repairs not covered by the faulty piston assembly claim # 2304031 consisting of replacement of high pressure fuel pump, exhaust manifold, O2 sensor, catalytic converter and required gasket was $1,975.38 us dollars labor included.

This vehicle is included with the recently settled lawsuit about the engine piston rings.my car was surging and running poorly. The dealer replaced the piston kit. My vehicle is excluded from the settlement as it has greater than 120,000. I paid for repair of over $1700 and sought help from the mn attorney gen office. File no: PCM/2020/5333402/C. they have gotten a response from GM stating they have no obligation to reimburse me due to the greater than 120,000 and closed their case. I am working with paul mueller from the consumer service division 651-355-0730. He advised me to file a complaint with you. GM is aware of the faulty system and is unethically refusing to assist those of us with cars excluded due to greater than 120,000 miles. Many of us are paying large repair bills or left with engines that do not run. There is a case file with info your organization can access at the mn attorney gen office.

The contact was informed that the PCV valve was blocked and the trans axle seal was leaking. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was towed to Chevrolet Buick GMC auto parts located at 440 hall of fame ave, springfield, MA 01105, (413) 417-2959, to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the PCV valve needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The contact stated that the vehicle was inoperable. The manufacturer was contacted however, no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 75,570. The VIN was invalid.

My Equinox started knocking and acting strange. Checked oil 1000 miles after oil change and there was no oil and no indicator light. Put oil in the Equinox and it starting acting normal again. Until a month later and it started acting strange again. Took it to the Chevy dealer we purchased it from and they said the pistons need replaced because of lack in oil and the timing chain needs replaced. The vehicle was at a stop sign. Turning right, it started to stall and then finally took off. This was the first instance of something potentially wrong. When we made it to work, it appeared to be ok. When we started it, exhaust appeared to come from under the hood and exhaust fumes were entering the cabin of the vehicle. To make it home safely, we lowered the windows. When we started it, there is noticeably a change in engine noise, the smell of burning oil, and oil covers the underside of the vehicle. We searched online to see what may be the cause, and we found a class-action lawsuit in Florida which describes our vehicle's issues almost perfectly. Oil consumption is high, it's not safe to drive, exhaust entering the cabin is deadly, and the change of the engine sound.

2013 Chevrolet Equinox. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle leaking oil. Consumer took vehicle to zimbrick GMC (madison, wi) on 2/18/20 because it was leaking oil. He was informed that the pvc valve had clogged/froze causing high pressure in engine which caused the rear differential gasket to blow out and leak engine oil. He was informed of a special coverage adjustment bulletin for the issue, but his VIN number was not included. Manufacturer was contacted, but provided no assistance because VIN number was not included in bulletin.
