Impala

  • 100,000 miles
The car has intermittent various electrical problems. It will run fine and then the next time the key fob wont open the door, no interior lights, it wont start...absolutely no power to anything in the car. It is as if the entire battery was removed. Then later, it will start right up. Trying to jump start it does nothing.this has left me completely stranded several times. I have had the car towed 3 times. But each time when I get it to the mechanic, it starts right up. Other times, the car runs fine but the door locks will unlock and lock on their own rapidly over and over. This usually happens while sitting with the car on and in park. Other times when trying to pull into traffic, the engine sputters, the radio display flashes on and off, and the ac blower cuts out all at the same time. This is dangerous because the sputtering stalls the acceleration while pulling into traffic. Other times just the radio and the display will go off - sometimes for days & sometimes just a few minutes, but everything else works fine. Other times the speedometer will completely stop working and the gas gage registers nothing. This has happened on the interstate on long drives so that I can't tell how fast I am going or whether I have enough gas. It will then start back up, but may be days later. I took it in to be fixed. They took the computer out from under the rear wheel well and showed me that it was completely corroded. I drove the car without a computer for 8 months but because of the same problems continuing, I took it back in and they said I needed a new computer. The car had too many miles for this to be covered so I paid over $1500 for this to be fixed. Now it is 3 weeks after getting the new computer installed. All of the problems have continued. And again today, I was stranded when I went out after work and found it dead again. It is back in the dealer again.

Impala

  • 26,000 miles
I received a recall letter for the side blind zone alert message on my Impala and I did not understand the wording in the letter "of it being covered within 6 years of the date your vehicle was originally placed in service." I thought it meant it couldn't be older than 6 years old but wasn't sure what placed in service meant and also not have over 80,000 miles on it. My vehicle has almost 26,000 and my date was September 13 per the local dealership, so when I called to make an appointment they told me it was not covered anymore. I had an appointment in August but had to cancel it as my mom was just put into hospice at that point. You would think they would put in the letter my date of originally placed in service but it would make it a lot easier to understand. I am hoping that I can still have it fixed and not have to pay for something that GM made incorrectly. My side blind alert comes on every time I turn my car on and doesn't work in the rain when I am driving. I thought this feature was to help people be more safe on the road and lessen crashes but it seems to be about money for GM or else they would fix it. I paid a lot of money for my Impala and its special features and though I know things will need to be fixed, I shouldn't have to pay for GM's mistake when manufacturing the vehicle. Thank you.

"service side detection" comes on the dash everytime the car is started. Recently I tried to enter my vehicle and the fob did not unlock the doors after several attempts. Once it did, the car would not start. After several attempts of starting the vehicle it finally worked, but the gauges kept turning on and off even while the car was in motion as well as the door locks. This is the first time this has happened, but it was quite concerning while driving.

Takata recall. Stablink first came on my car when driving on a city road it was shaking did not want to pick up speed. Had that fixed, then 9/2018 my side blinders started malfunctioning would come on and off. At times one would just stay on even when the car was off. Received a letter 4/2019 about extended warranty on this but only good for 80,000 miles. My car has 98,000 miles. So here I am stuck to have to pay out of pocket.

Started my vehicle and power steering warning came on, dismissed it, stability control warning appeared, dismissed it, traction control light and ABS light remained on. This occurred when leaving a friend's driveway and driving onto a county road. The power steering was inoperative! took vehicle to repair shop. Mechanic found left rear wheel speed sensor ring broken. This should not happen! there are 50215 miles on this car and it is very well maintained.

I had a problem with the lane departure modules that explode and and caused my system to fail. Saying that my airbag deployed, my gas was empty, they theft is detected, the A/C blower motor turned on and off, finally I got the modules replaced, but now there are new safety issues happening. The light on the mirror to tell if someone is next to me turns on all the time. I almost ran off the raid because I was changing lanes and it went off and now one was there. The backup sensors are delayed in telling me if something is behind me or coming behind me. The front system does not make the car slow down when I am in cruse control and a car goes slo infornt of me. I don't trust that the airbag will go off if it needs to in a collision.. I really don't feel safe in this car.

When starting the vehicle 5E 'service stabilitrack' light will turn on; the gear will be on manual instead of int he park position - and I am unable to switch the gear. I am not able to put it in drive. I have to turn it off and on a couple of times before it will start on park. The car has also switched to the manual position when I'm driving and making a left turn. This happens more frequently after it's rained the service engine light comes on, but after a few days it turns off. The problem of going from park to manual or from being in drive to manual has happened both while the car is in motion or when it is stationary- it's also happened on a busy highway or in town at low speed.

Side detection system quit working. However it is connected to the main computer so sometimes my car will idle poorly and rev high. This could present a huge problem if it revs high when trying to brake for a car in front of me. I have also heard people with the same model having issues with it stalling. So this presents it's own problems. Seems no different than the loss of power like GM had with their ignition switches.

Side detection system failure. Module absorbing moisture. Detection light on side mirror stays on, even when car is off. Instrument cluster flashes various warnings. GM is aware that it is due to a defective part but limits coverage to certain mileage. Seems like a part that could cause a fire near the gas tank would be a big enough safety hazard to warrant a full recall. Issue first happened while driving through town. Gave warnings on the side detection, then light stayed on in the side view mirror.

Driving along on freeway when all of a sudden my dash lit up with various flashing lights and warnings, the cruise control shut off and my HVAC stopped functioning. Had to pull over on busy highway and restart to no avail. Pulled over again once I got to rest stop. Let it sit. Restarted and worked okay. Internet says problem is with side detection system (which dealer confirmed but said my car missed cut-off date by 5 days on a $700 repair bill. Car has but 12,300 miles on it (I am 92 years old). Internet also states that if issue is not fixed it will eventually cause serious issues with dashboard electronics, including fire. GM issued special coverage adjustment #N172097060 (no owner notification), which is what I was told I missed out on by 5 days.
