problem #183

Dec 152018

Silverado 1500

  • 49,000 miles
At low speed in a parking lot or in out of a parking spot the brake pedal intermittently becomes excessive and non-functioning. Vehicle needs to roll to a stop on its own. Once stopped and put into gear pedal functions again. This has now happened 4 times in the last 6 months. After doing a search online I see a number of other owners have reported this issue. Seems to be a bad vacuum pump. Wanted to report it as well hoping it will lead to a safety recall.

I've experienced the same issues that numerous people are reporting and also received the letter from Chevy/GM in regards to the brake failure at slow speeds. I've had this issue occur at least 3 times in the last couple of years. Didn't realize it was as big of a known problem until conducting additional research. Want to ensure my voice is heard/known in the larger complaint that is developing. A recall should be issued. This is a scary situation when this occurs. Simply turn off truck and start it up again and the immediate problem goes away. However the issue occurs without any warning and could definitely lead to an accident.

problem #180

May 062019

Silverado 1500

  • 78,000 miles
Brakes become difficult to operate and/or inoperable on 2015 Chevy Silverado 1500. Typically occurs at low speeds when parking. This has happened numerous times over the years. This has caused me to back into a parked vehicle and has caused many near disasters when positioning the camper. I have just received a notice from GM that they have acknowledged the problem, but are not taking full responsibility. They are offering to make some repairs under a "special coverage program, " which excludes my vehicle due to mileage. This should be a full and complete recall for all vehicles effected.

Silverado 1500

On 12/15/2018 my brake vacuum pump went out. I had it replaced at a dealership. Total cost $1506.56. Master cylinder, brake booster, and a connecting pipe had to be replaced also. April 2019, I receive a letter from GM, describing this issue and saying if I have less than 72,000 miles or bought it new within the last 6 years, whichever come first, they will fix it. Brakes are a very serious component. This problem dates back to the 2014, S. I feel GM should reimburse me for my repair cost, since the problem came from their plant. I have more miles on my truck than they say they will cover. Brakes and the components are things they should cover. I have invoices and proof that I paid these expenses. Every person pays hard earned money for a new vehicle. Manufacturers should be required to back their vehicles. I was driving on a side street when this pump went out. I had all I could do to stop it, using both feet on the brake pedal. Thank you for your time.

problem #169

Apr 262019

Silverado 1500

  • 33,000 miles
Increased brake pedal effort, hard brake pedal, and/or potentially increased stopping distance due to low mechanical vacuum pump output. Condition is more prevalent at low speed when softly applying the brake. Decrease vacuum/power brake assist over time, failure to follow recommended oil change intervals could contribute to conditions. Driver's information center (dic) "service brake assist" alert will activate 2-5 minutes after dropping in vacuum level, and diagnostic trouble code (dtc) will also be set. Hydraulic brake system remains functional but may require additional pedal force.

problem #167

Jun 012018

Silverado 1500

  • 70,000 miles
Brake vacuum pump failed which resulted in diminished braking performance. This was very dangerous as we were pulling a camper when it happened. Dealership replaced vacuum pump when vehicle was at 78260miles although condition started before that. We received a letter about reimbursement but it only applies to 72000 miles or 6 years. The repair cost us over $500.
