Complete brake failure when brakes applied in brake system. Pedal went to the floorboard without any warning or braking action. Rear brake line rusted thru above gas tank and expelled all brake fluid when pedal was depressed. There was no braking or slowing from any wheel. Fluid was all over tire and axle on the left rear. Lucky that I did not have any vehicles directly in front of me as I had to coast to a stop. Definitely reading the other posts on the web that this is no fluke and does not need to be a high mileage vehicle. Truck is not used for snow removal and sees limited driving during winter months.

When coming to a stop, at speeds of less than 5mph, the brake pedal goes to the floor as if the ABS is activating. This happens on smooth dry pavement. Taken to several mechanics and dealers and everyone says everything is working the way it should. I've heard of other owners of this make/model experiencing the same problems. The vehicle continued to accelerate and after applying the brakes numerous times, the vehicle eventually slowed down. The failure only recurred when driving 10 mph or less. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where they advised that there was not a recall pertaining to the brakes. The vehicle was in the process of being repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.

ABS activation at slow speeds preventing stopping of vehicle. Dealer and GM refused to participate in repair, stated the sensors were contaminated from rust and therefore not defective, the problem is environmental and we cannot assist you with the repair.. there is no ABS warning light coming on and this is identical to the problem found on earlier models 1999-2002 which were recalled. I was told I need to replace the front wheel speed sensors @ a cost of $460 dollars to correct the problem. This happens almost every time the vehicle comes to a stop causing it to surge forward, it will cause a collision..

I have a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 hd four wheel drive that is not stopping properly at low speeds. The ABS system is letting go at slow speeds causing the brakes to let go. This could be a very serious situation at a crosswalk with children. I reported the problem at the local dealer and they said it was a common occurrence due to rust affecting the ABS brake sensors. The cost of the sensors was $135 each plus about three hours labor total close to $600. I think this should be a recall issue as it is not caused by wear.

Defective metal in the brake rotors of a 2006 Chevy 1500 hd caused rapid wear through of brake pads and a loss of braking capability (all four rotors). No other rust on the vehicle. No heavy towing and very limited exposure to salt. The metal is substandard and rusts from the inside out. It reached a point that a rough braking surface caused "sanding" of the pads so that the time between warning of brakes pads needing replacing from the "chirp" sensor and failure was < 1 day. Failure greatly reduced braking and was a major safety hazzard. Took rotors defective rotors to dealer who denied the issue. Vehicle has 36K and is 4 years old. My mechanic tells me this issue is common. I am a mechanical engineer with a back ground in metals and can verify the porous nature of the metal and pitting corrosion. This problem will eventually kill someone.

I have an 06 Chevy Silverado 2500hd extra cab, I live in ct. I recently started experiencing a problem with the vehicle when slowing to a stop, the ABS kicks on, whether driving on wet or dry roads. I had aa warranty which was 3 year, 36,000 miles which the 3 years expired last October and the vehicle recently turned 37,000 miles. I have found many similar complaints online and the local dealer seems to know nothing of any problem and of course wants me to bring the truck in for a diagnosis. The problem happens randomly, and it definitely increases my stopping distance. I have considered removing the fuse for the ABS system but feel I may need the ABS in some future circumstance. Any help you can give would be appreciated.

My Chevrolet 2500 has a function called grade braking to assist the brakes when towing a load down hill. It has quit functioning but the dealers cannot figure out how to troubleshoot the problem. They said since no codes show on the computer I have to wait until I have a trailer behind it and am near a dealer that is near a steep grade to test it. The whole point of the system it to keep the truck from running away on a steep grade. Doesn't sound like the place to test it. There are no steep grades with in 150 miles of me. There should be a simulated test run by their computer.

2006 Chevy Silverado truck front ABS antilock sensors failed due to corrosion GM had a recall 08/30/2005 for same problem on 2002 models, they knew about this in 05 (when my truck was built) but only admit to 2002 models NHTSA campaign # 05V37900 - think this needs to be extended to all models they built this way.

Power steering fails and since the power steering pump controls the hydoboost it affects the power brakes of the vehicle. When the power steering pump fails you loose power brakes and the vehicle moves forward at a brisk pace until you forcefully put both feet on the brake pedal and push down with all the power you can to stop the truck. Since this has happened 4 times I realize immediatly what the probelem was and applied all the pedal power I could to stop the truck. This can be an intermittent problem and since the dealer cannot duplicate the issue, they will not replace the power steering pump until it fails completely, which mine finally did. 6 months later the replacement pump is doing the same intermittent failure and the dealer will not replace it until it completely fails again.
