  • 30,000 miles
Occasionally, when accelerating from a stop, or low speed, the engine seems to increase rpms while the car temperarily slows, and then the car lurches forward and emits a loud mechanical clank. The whole sensation is similar to my car being "rear-ended" by another vehicle.

From a stop at a stop light, when light turned green accelerated to about 18 mph (going straight through light) then lost all power (with accelerator still depressed) while in middle of the intersection. At that same time a notification displayed on the dashboard for about 5 seconds stating "adaptive cruise control (acc) off". after about 5 seconds notification disappeared and power returned to vehicle. This exact issue happened twice in the same day.

I was driving in stop-N-go traffic between 0-25 mph for about 10 minutes, when the car stop responding to acceleration. The engine was still on. I was lucky to be able to pull over to the left shoulder, but there was a lot of traffic behind me, and could have been rear-ended with my family inside the vehicle. Once I pulled over, I saw that the "engine fault", "parking brake fault" lights had come on, and the dash displayed "traction control disable". there were other messages that came up. I tried to put the car in "park", but the shifter didn't respond. I turned off the vehicle and started it back up. All the fault lights were still on, and the shifter was blinking between "P" and "L" for no reason. I shut off the engine again, and attempted to restart a second time, with the same result. I shut off the engine again and waited for about 3 minutes before restarting. This time I was able to put the car into D, and go to the dealer to check up. Needless to say, this was very dangerous, not knowing if the car could malfunction again and if I would lose control again. I have taken this vehicle to the dealer 3 times before regarding a rough gear change at low speed. Each time the dealer updated the program on the transmission control module (tcm) per Chrysler factory bulletin, and told me to drive it and eventually the computer will "learn" my driving habit (as if somehow I am at fault for accelerating the vehicle). On this occasion, the dealer replaced the tcm, but gave me no assurances that these problems would not occur again with the new tcm. Unless Chrysler can explain what was the problem, and what they did to fix it with the new tcm, I feel there is a safety concern/risk with this vehicle.

My van has 54,000 miles it's not very old and the transmission is skipping (up shifting, down shifting, and highway driving) I keep taking it to the dealer ship they keep running updates on it and it's still skipping. The van has a very rough idle (keeps feeling like it's going to turn off while it's in park) something is wrong with it and the deal ship thinks it's okay. Well it's not. The front hood has bubbles in the paint and it's still a new vehicle how am I to think I will be owning this van for atleast 10 more years and it's becoming rusted already.

Although the problem is not there with every acceleration, the van seems to be tugging, then jumping/pushing forward, and then resuming acceleration. This usually happens after being stopped and accelerating to go at around 20mphs. I have also had this happen when turning and merging on to traffic around town which has caused oncoming cars to have to decelerate due to my acceleration delay. I've had the car checked out by the dealership and have been told that they are unable to replicate the problem, yet I'm driving around town worried that I will get in a wreck because of the random failure to accelerate smoothly. What's even more concerning is that there are thousands of complaints like mine online, yet dealerships are unable to replicate the issue (one example: Https://M.carcomplaints.com/Chrysler/Pacifica/2017/drivetrain/power_train.shtml). Not sure what else to do.

The contact owns a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated while driving 20 mph, the vehicle inadvertently downshifted and the vehicle slowed drastically almost coming to a stop. The contact stated no warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to local dealer Chrysler Dodge Jeep (2158 baltimore pike, oxford, pa, 19363) to be diagnosed however, the cause of the failure was not determined. The failure persisted occasionally. The manufacture was notified of the failure however, no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 277,550.

Usually while driving slow (ex. Slow roll right hand turn, driving through a parking lot, or in stop and go traffic) letting off of the accelerator and upon using accelerator to start slow acceleration the car kicks upon acceleration. Feels like someone hits you from behind. Also appears as though transmission is trying to find a gear and finally engages with a kick. This vehicle has been at the dealership for this reason multiple times with no resolution, stating the issue could not be replicated. Have also opened three cases with Chrysler care which were closed for the same reason. The transmission kick occurs at random times and can't be replicated on-demand.

Steering wheel gets stuck on turns even slight ones have to pull it in correct direction. Lights on dash go off as I drive at night is terrible. Side sliding doors, back door have opened by self as I approached vehicle. Radio volume used to go up and down, same for the parking brake as I parked, it also while driving makes loud bunk noise and as it sholts like whip lash to my neck and spine. The tires loose air right away. Most important is steering and sholt. I drive for a living and these are so dangerous. Dealer in homestead acknowledged issues, but still same was told was fixed, yet I was to be charged to jyst have it checked $120, worst service ever at all 3 different dealers, customer service is terrible wait time for oul change is over 2 hrs one time. Am totally dissatisfied with this vehicle. The only good thing is the drop sests but I almost got squeezed in while moving about no sensor stops it.

  • 30,390 miles
30,390while cruising on interstate, (2/6/21, 3:17 pm, drizzling, 55 degrees F, at 70 mph in cruise control) instrument panel goes black, engine shuts off, power steering goes off, rt passenger window descends all the way, wipers go off, cruise goes off, gear indicator switches (on it's own from drive to neutral, to park. Coasting to side left of side of the (under construction) shoulder (rt shoulder is blocked by jersey barriers) instrument cluster comes back on. I shift from park to neutral, to drive, with no effect on drivability. I stopped off the roadway and shut off the ignition. Instrument cluster has battery and fcw warning lights on. There is a distinct smell of an electrical fire. I check under the hood to look for obvious fire sources. None are apparent. I checked the battery connection. This appears as normal for this vehicle, not tight ' but not loose either. I checked the fuse box. I did not have a fuse indicator tool with me and did not attempt to pull fuses. Seeing no obvious fire sources I shut the hood. Five minutes after stopping I tried the ignition again and the car started. The rt passenger window was to 3' short of closed, then it stopped. I pulled back on the highway and resumed the trip. The fcw warning light was still on. Cruise control was unavailable. The driver's side mirror warning indicator was on. On 2/7/21 I checked the car. All power devices on the rt front door were not active. I checked the fuses and determined that at least one had failed (F47). I attempted to replace the fuse. In doing so the rt passenger window immediately returned to the fully closed position, the fuse blew as I put it in, the smell of burning electrical wire was apparent inside the cab, but not under the hood.

The contact owns a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that while driving or while accelerating, the vehicle intermittently lost power. The contact also stated that an abnormal sound came from the steering wheel after going over a bump in the roadway. There was no warning light illuminated. Additionally, the alarm activated independently on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the failure was due to a power steering assist fault. The contact was advised to take the vehicle to an authorized dealer. The vehicle was taken to normandin Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat dealer (900 capitol expressway auto mall, san jose, ca 95136) and the contact was informed that the VIN was not under recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure the failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

  • 65,000 miles
Two issues. First, when accelerating, sometimes the transmission disengages for about 1-2 seconds and then reengages and causes a sudden jerk motion forward. Happens 3-4 times a month. This will happen on both city streets and highways. This has started over 3 years ago. Second, the engine will stall/shut off at random times on city streets. It occurs when going over a speed bump and also occurs when making a U-turn. It takes quickly shifting back to park, then pressing brake and start button to start back up. This has started happening within the last 3-6 months.

  • 500 miles
While driving primarily at lower speeds when braking and then apply acceleration the transmission suddenly hard shifts. A number of times in intersections it is as though the transmission is between gears and the car is not moving at a speed with the amount of acceleration being applied. The transmission then will bang or jerk into gear with quite a bit of force. These events seem to occur more frequently during lower speed driving while slowing before a traffic light and then the light changes and you apply acceleration or when rolling and then applying acceleration. We have had the vehicle to the dealer a number of times and they always advise they can not recreate the problem. This issue has been present since we purchased the vehicle in December 2016.

  • 10,000 miles
Sometimes usually at low speeds and lower gears under light acceleration the transmission shifts to the upper gear with a bang, like someone hit with a hammer and with a strong jerk. Almost like transmission mounts are defective. It does not happen if I accelerate fast. It has been going on for almost 2 years now and due to dealership being too busy with appointment schedules close to 2 months no chance to make an arrangement.

The transmission often lurches and clunks into gear when shifting at lower speeds (between 2-4th gears). It happens when accelerating or decelerating with specific pedal pressure. This has happened since we bought the vehicle almost a year ago, and seems to be a common issue with these vehicles.

  • 70,000 miles
While driving on a 50mph 4 lane road with my two children 3 & 5, I decelerated to make a left hand turn and within 3 seconds the car sputtered to a halt with all power cutting off. In a panic, I tried to get the car started again but it did not respond to the ignition. I got out of the car to get my kids out of the back seat and bring them to safety. I manually opened the rear driver side door and after doing so, the power came back on to the car. I quickly got back in and drove home without incident. We have since searched the VIN for recalls to find that for whatever reason, my VIN did not qualify for the recall involved in 2017 Chrysler Pacificas with this same exact problem occurring. I brought the car in for a diagnostic, and of course they could find nothing wrong nor "reproduce the problem", or give us any reassurance that this wouldn't happen again.
