This is awful to have to then replace my front brakes at under 32,000 miles after I just replaced my rear brakes at under 25,000 miles. This is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyy to freaking early!!!!!

Absolutely ridiculous to have to replace my brakes and have rotors resurfaced at under 25,000 miles.

2009 Dodge Journey purchased new April 2009. Now replacing rear brake pads and having the rear rotars resurfaced with only 28750 miles on the car! Cost $297.65!

Brand new Dodge Journey purchased April 2009. September 2010 I was notified that the front brake pads needed to be replaces with approx. 17000 miles on the car. Turns out it needed the brake pads replaced and the rotars resurfaced. $250 repair cost. Less $50 deductible offered by Chrysler in June 2011.

For those of you in California, I have filed a suit against Dodge/Chrysler for the issues with the vehicle being a lemon, Dodge's response was to offer me 6000.00 and to keep the vehicle and continue making payments, that was a slap in the face for a vehicle that is a death trap. Yes a death trap, had a complete break failure and ran off the road, lost control and spun backwards striking a buried boulder bending my exhaust pipe, this was at 19K miles. Right front break pads blew apart, towed into dealership, didn't work on it due to out of warranty and they stated it would be approx 1000 to fix it, took it to Midas, spent 400, replaced front rotors and pads, at 23K miles, brakes worn down to metal, took to Midas, said dodge problem, Dodge would not work on it stating it was Midas' issue. Got letter from Dodge to fix brakes after 100 deductible, they replaced front rotors and pads, 2 days(TWO DAYS LATER) brakes failed and ran through hwy interchange and almost got side swiped by a Big Rig. Pucker factor +20, taken back to Dodge and spent all day there and they stated they turned rotors again on the back rotors but when I went around to the service bays, the front rotors and back rotors were off and they were replacing the brake pads again. This needs to stop and the only way Dodge will do anything about it is for someone to be killed, it's not going to be me......
Update from Jul 24, 2012: Well so far the offers from Chrysler have been minimal so to speak, they offered only to reimburse what I have paid so far and to take the vehicle back, DON'T THINK SO!!!! Lawsuit has been filed against Chrysler and Haddad Dodge and a mediation date has been set for August 28th to rectify this LEMON.
Now for those of you that are asking how is this happening, they designed this vehicle on the Avenger chassis not taking into account that the Journey is almost 1200lbs heavier on the smaller diameter rotors and pads. Even my 2006 Honda had larger rotors(by almost 3 inches) and weighed in at 1000lbs less. It is a MAJOR design flaw that will get someone killed. As of right now, 39000 miles and the 3rd set of rear pads need to be replaced. Front set, I am on my 4th along with 2 new sets of rotors.
Update from Aug 30, 2012: For those of you that have bought a Dodge Journey in 2009, have some bad news for ya, Dodge (Chrysler) had filed bankruptcy in 2009 and it has been granted so they have protection from the courts and only are liable for a small amount. I was in mediation all day to get my vehicle issues resolved and all that can be said per the agreement is that it has been settled in my favor. The issues had been addressed and has been resolved and I will never, EVER buy another Dodge or Chrysler product again.

I started to notice that when I applied the brakes the stering wheel would shake. It started as just a slight shake and I thought maybe my tires needed ballanced. As the week went on, it got worse. I called Roysten Service center, where I had purchased the car and they scheduled me on 8-6-11. They came out and informed me that the Roters were warped and the pads were worn on the rear. When I asked how this could happen, I was told it was from using the brake too much or in a quick motion. I was told to put my car in Neurtral when in stopped traffic or at a light to avoid them overheating. Today is 3-29-12 and I am in need of yet another set of Rotars and pads. I use this vehicle to transport my children and Grandchildren and fear this is a safety matter, as well as an extra cost. I HAND PICKED this vehicle because of the safety features and size and feel I have been lied to . I paid cash and the factory warrenty has expired and now the vehicle is having problems. I have had problems with the wiring in the drivers door controll panel and was there so often for controlls not functioning, that when the Wiring Harness was finally replaced, the paperwork stated" See prior history" on the invoice. I have always beleived in American made products. However, when our American made products are actually built with inferrior parts from wherever, it can cause a sour feeling. I hope the situation can be corrected now that Chrysler is out of trouble and prove to the American public that they will continue to provide Quality Products as they once did.

This car is a POS!! THe front end shakes like crazy when I slow down, have done my brakes and rotors 2 times in the 3 years I have owned it and we bought it brand new. I am seeing a lot of information regarding a class action lawsuit...does anyone know how to get involved with these lawsuits or to get the shaking fixed without having to pay for it out of my own pocket?

Approximately every 15-20k miles, the break system and tires wear completely, requiring full replacement. Chrysler/Dodge is aware, but chooses to offer only minor assistance, and pithy excuses, even going so far as to blame it on "women drivers".

Every mechanic we talk to about this car says it the same thing , crap ... The brakes and rotors should never have worn out that quickly , the falulty system mena we are in need of new brakes and rotors again. Yes, twice in 3 years. I have been to the dealer 7 times because our seats stain with water spots or sweat , they said it was a bad lot of fabric, but would not replace them with something that didn't stain when with simple drops of water. Seriously if it rains and I sit in my seat it loks like someone poured a soda all over my seat. My visors have the covers over the mirrors both broke, the seats have a handle to adjust passenger side broke off in the first year. I hate this car, it rides like crap and now it looks like crap. I "Black Book" price on this car is half what I owe!

2009 Dodge Journey purchased new April 2009. Now the front rotors need to be turned, but because the Dodge Service Bulletin states not to turn the rotors it is recommended that we just replace both brake pads and rotors for the $100 deductible as it is covered under the Extended Warranty offered by Chrysler (barely by 2 weeks!). So that is replacement number 2 on the front pads in less than 3 years of owning the car!

Purchased my Journey in June 08 miles, by March 09 w/3400 miles I was replacing rusted rotors, by 1/2010 w/14.400 miles I was having them resurfaced and brakes replaced; by 9/2010 with 20,000 I was having them replaced again; by 1/2012 I had them replaced AGAIN.
I am so sick of this car its not funny. however in no financial position to buy new or used!! Although I have shelled out more than enough to afford a higher payment. I am in a battle with Chrysler right now, had a case number sent to the Lemon Law Dept and now the case rep was fired so it starts my case all over again!! And they want ME to fax them information they already have on their system! I can't stand it. I had to fight the first time around because they said they are not covered under warranty. Any person knows rotors do not go 4 x's in 4 years with 34,000 miles.
The rotors aren't the only issue read on: 09/25/2008 – 3,429 miles Grinding noise when turning left – BULLETIN from factory - Steering reservoir ordered 10/08/2008 – 3,855 miles Steering Reservoir replaced - was leaking 11/25/2008 – 4,580 miles Squealing left rear - E-Brake cables rubbing on bracket replaced both 03/20/2009 - 7,331miles Squealing - Right Rear rotor was rusted and replaced 11/10/2009 - 12,834 miles Suspension issue (?) Fluid Level sensor replaced on 11/09 01/18/2010 – 14,455 miles Squealing from wheels – Replaced brake pads and resurfaced rotors 09/10/2010 – 20,718 miles Vibration rear rotors resurfaced 03/22/2011 – 25,551 miles RECALL 01/03/2012 – 33,280 miles Wiring harness replaced – RECALL issues 01/03/2012 - 33,280 miles Drivers side power door locks not working – found open circuit replaced master switch
02/29/2012 – 34,700 miles loud squealing - rear rotors and pads replaced
Can we all just say LEMON!!!!

I'm not exactly sure the exact date of 1st brake and rotor replacement but I do know my vehicle had around 14000 miles on it. Approximately 10 months ago I had the front brakes and rotors replaced again, along with a new set of tires (approx. $750.00). Within the last couple of months we noticed the steering wheel starting to shimmy again, last weekend as I was driving up north around 55 miles an hour I applied the brakes and thought I was going to run off the road the shaking was so bad then I heard the familiar grinding sound.Granted my 2009 has 85000 miles on it already but these are almost all highway miles as we head north every weekend (185) each way. I just paid our mechanic another $165.00 for new rotors and pads. The pads are lifetime so they were under warranty, but still 3 sets of rotors in 3 yrs. Can't wait until we are finished paying this PofS off so I can go back to Ford

This car is not safe to drive. We had to rent a car to go to Cali instead of taking the car we just bought. Noise in front when breaking. Dealer replaced hub and bearing, still noisy. Finally decided it was the caliper and bracket and had that replaced.

This Dodge Journey is a crime. Dodge is literally robbing me every time I need an oil change I need to change the brake pads or rotors. Please help.
- mp34, Oxford, CT, US
I was outraged that I had to replace the brake pad and rotors so soon! and of course this problem, according to Dodge, is a maintanence problem so its not covered under any warranty. I complained that it should not wear this quickly but they insisted that its a maintanence problem so they could not help me.

I have a 2009 Dodge Journey with 22,000 miles on it. The entire brake system is shot. I have to relace pads, discs, and rotors on the front and rear of this vehicle. I called the dealership and they told me they would have to see the car before answering any questions. If this is a known problem with the vehicle then why do they have to see it. I feel like I am getting the run around with this problem. I have never had a car where the brakes were shot with only 22,000 miles on it. What else is wrong with the car that I do not know about? Chrysler should do something about this before they have unhappy customers who will not return. This is the first Dodge that I have bought and it is definetly the last one I will ever buy. I was so happy with car when I first bought it, but if this is how customers get treated then I will take my business elsewhere.

Instead of purchasing a new truck for myself, my wife and I elected to get her a new family (reliable) vehicle. What a mistake!! We bought a 2009 journey in Aug 2010 with just 20000 miles on it. In the deal made with the dealership, we requested new tires be put on. I should have known there was a problem right there. Why should a vehicle need new tires after just 20000 miles? Then after a few months I noticed a roaring sound when hitting the brakes. When we took it to the repair shop, we discovered that ALL the rotors needed replacing as well as ALL the brake pads - at @ 24000 miles. Then in Oct 2011, the radiator had to be replaced due to factory defect...small pin holes all over, cost- over 600 dollars! There has been so many other things too many to list. I definitely feel like we purchased a HUGE LEMON and will NEVER buy a dodge again.

My car now has 35000 miles on it and I have replaced my brakes and rotors twice. I am now running on bare minimum ONCE AGAIN. Paid the first time and they tried to charge at the Dodge dealer a second time. I fought it and they stated that there WAS a warning for faulty brakes but that it was not a recall. I now have to do them again and they are trying to make me pay saying incorrect usage of brakes. PLEASE!!!!

Front brake pads and rotors were replaced under extended warranty offered by Chrysler, but rear brakes were not covered.

This is the second time in three years I have the brakes repaired. Call the customer service for chrysler, and they eventually paid for the repair.
