Went out after a big snow storm to help a friend that got stuck in the snow and end up getting my 4 wd dodge 1500 truck stuck. When I put it in 4wd it would not work... so we rocked the truck back and forth from drive to reverse and reverse to drive till we got it unstuck the first time. Down the road got stuck again and had to do the same thing. We finally got to a main road and on the way home the truck we stopped at a gas station to check all the fluids since I have such high milage on the truck. The oil was 2 1/2 qts low (probably from all the hard gas pedal activity rocking the truck), so added oil. Check the tran fluid and it was red and not low. Went to back out of the parking space and the truck would not move. Had another person with their truck pull me backwards from the spot (with my shifter reading in neutral) and it took everything the other truck had to pull me. Got back on the road and my truck would not shift out from 1st gear (auto trans). Drove all the way home doing 20 mph (about 14 mile trip)... Got home and trans fluid was burnt!!! Oh did I mentioned that the linkage was not working the same as my markers on the dash? So home we are and the truck now wants to go forward when put in reverse, none of the shifter positions will work to drive backwards. I know this is an older truck and not pretty, but dam it I luv this truck and have owned it since jan 2005... It has almost 300,000 on it with all original stuff like motor, trans, transfer case and rear end. The rear end was rebuilt when the truck had 140,000 miles on it. But the rest is original with no rebuilding.... I hate to waste money on changing the filter and fluid to only find nothing is still working right after putting it all back together. Has anyone been able to do a quick fix with what I'm going through or ????? Please help... This truck has been my main vehicle, tractor, hualer, etc.... I live on a farm and used it daily!

bought this truck off a cop (my first mistake!) for about 2 grand, drove it home about a good 150 miles truck was fine got home loaded it up that night and went to mackay for our camping trip the truck also made it to the destination about a good 2 hour drive. we had no issues with the truck everything seemed to be in good shape. after our trip was done on our way back home the truck just shut off about 10 miles out of my town and to make it worse i was on the freeway so i pulled over and was trying to get it to fire up, it would not start so i got out and popped the hood and was messing around with the coil and it finally started. when we made it home i went down to the local parts store and bought a full tune up (spark plugs, wires, cap, rotar, and coil) it ran me almost 200 bucks for all that, did the tune up and it was running fine for a few days when it started to just turn off. I was told it was my fuel pump, so i went back down to the parts store got a new fuel pump ($450 bucks!) slapped that in and it still would not start so i left it for the next day. the next morning i started the truck and it FINALLY starts, thinking i got the problem fixed i drive it to work i work about 20 miles from where i live, and the cock sucker does it again! i finally get to work so i start researching what could be the problem come to find out its a crank shaft position sensor so i get one of them the next day ($90 bucks) that takes care of that problem..... for the time being!
about a month later i am coming back from the sand dunes and dropped on of my buddies off on my way home i go around a corner and hear a loud clank come out of my rear end so i just brush it off and head home, the next day as im driving it every time i would take off it felt like the gears weren't meshing together right so that night i pop the pumpkin cover off the rear end and find some of my spider gear teeth had broken off. my girlfriends dad has one of his mechanics come over and put in a new spider gear kit ($200 bucks) the mechanic has it done in a matter of hours truck is fine for the time being, come christmas day i am driving home from the inlaws christmas lunch we are about 5 miles from my house on the freeway when the rear end locks up and snaps my drive line and busts the u-joint housing on the rear end so we get a tow home, a week later i get enough money for a new rear end ($300 bucks) but before i slap it in i take it and make sure the gears and everything are good i dont want that happening again, everything checks out so i slap it back in!
about two months go by when the transmission goes out, i finally get it to catch gears and limp it home. i call the local transmission shop the next day and have them pick it up to diagnose it they call me back the next day and inform the the transmission is shot, i had two choices buy a new-used transmission or have it rebuilt. i chose to have it rebuilt ($2,056 bucks!) this dodge has given more problems and more greif than any other vehicle i have ever owned in my life! i have to say that i will NEVER EVER buy another god damn dodge in my entire life!!!!
