I bought this used in 2005 and it wasn't long after that when I noticed the first crack on the dashboard. I take excellent care of my vehicles so I was astounded that Dodge would have such a defect on their vehicles and not do a recall. It seems every time I touch this dash it cracks again, even a simple task such as dusting it lightly with a rag. Once while driving down the freeway with my windows open, a piece of plastic from the dash flew into my eye and nearly caused me to wreck - but luckily I was able to pull over off the side of the freeway in time.
I've purchased a dash cloth cover for it but after a couple of years it has faded. While removing it the other day just by touching it lightly I developed even more cracks just by taking my cloth cover off of the dash. I am afraid the whole dashboard will disintegrate soon. Not only is it a safety issue but I doubt I would be able to sell the truck because of it.

This dash cracked years ago. It has been falling apart gradually over time. Even though it is an older vehicle I don't believe it should be in this poor condition. I have other vehicles this age and older with great interior. It has been bothering me, I have thought about about putting a cover or cap on it. My only fear was it continuing to crumble under cap. This may cause more squeaking or road noises.
Today just really done it for me when I had to service evaporator for ac, it literally crumbled trying to remove it for service. I believe this should have been rectified years ago with Dodge. It's probably going to cost 4-5 hundred to replace dash and bezel. Just think if I was doing this for a customer not my personal vehicle. Some of those just don't understand and want it replaced out of your pocket. Even if you warn them, or have them sign waiver. I known nothing will ever come of this probably, it's hard enough getting something rectified on a new vehicle through a dealer or manufacturer is hard enough without them snaking their way out.

This is a problem not only because it looks bad, but the broken plastic pieces of dash are very sharp and can cause serious damage to, not only to a person but to components behind the dash, such as wiring, the air bag, etc. I contacted Dodge, and they gave me the "runaround" blaming "wear" and too old to be covered by warranty, etc. They act as though this is an isolated incident, knowing full well, with any research at all, it is a very common problem.

This 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup is the first vehicle I ever owned that the dashboard completely fell apart. The broken edges are sharp enough to cause cuts, and have in the past. The dashboard is so fragile now that the least touch causes the plastic to crumble. Ridiculous for a major manufacturer to let something like this go on for so many years without doing anything about it.

With all the problems with the cheap dash, you think Dodge would offer a cheaper way to replace the faulty dash. Both my friends 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 and my 1999 Ram had cracked dash.
WATCH OUT! Some dashes you can buy WILL STILL CRACK! I was taking off the old cruddy dash, left the new one on the floor, and when it was time to needing it, it was in all cracked and broken!

My dashboard cracked all the way across the dash from one side to the other, in my opinion this is very dangerous, when ever I turn my air condition on the debris from the dash flies into your eyes, causing me to loose sight of the road temporarily which could have caused an accident.
I bought this vehicle in good face, now that dodge knows there is a problem with the dashboards of these vehicles, it's only fair that they act in good face and do something about the problem!!!

I own a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport and have kept the truck in very good shape over the last 16 years but one problem that I do have with it is a cracked /broken dash board .This problem started back in 2007 and with some small hairline cracks. When I first noticed the cracks I made sure to keep the dash board covered at all times.The truck was put in storage for about 3 years and during that time, the dash kept getting worse ,to the point where it is completely broken into pieces.I have been looking into either a replacement or a Dash Cap cover. In the process of looking for a possible fix ,I discovered that this is a big problem with hundreds of other Dodge owners that have the same problem. I believe that this should be considered a defective product and that the manufacturer should stand by their product , recall this faulty dashboard and replace it with an aftermarket part that will not have the same problem. I don't think that Chrysler/Dodge should pass the Buck onto the consumer here.they should take responsibility for allowing this faulty part to go past their Quality Control Dept. and out to the Market.

My truck is fine other than the dashboard it is cracking and falling apart horrible the bezel is just hanging there now I have never seen this happen on any other vehicle I've owned. I feel it should be replaced by dodge it is obviously some type of defected plastic it can be dangerous too, if I am in an accident the shares of plastic would be flying everywhere in my eyes or face this problem could be deadly

I bought the truck used in 2005 w/ around 50,000 miles on her. The dash was already cracked everywhere. I made the mistake of cleaning it a few mos. later and it was so dried out it literally crumbled and fell in. The whole damn dash! Everyone since whom I spoke to that had a dodge around my year of 1999 ALL complained about the same problem. There is no way in hell that Dodge didn't know about this after the FIRST year and yet they continued on making the same shabby sh*t year after year after year and it isn't like trucks are cheap! I don't give two sh*ts whom they want to "compare" prices with... anything over $10,000 for a truck should be illegal in my opinion and they were getting over three times that. It is pure profit and all of the makers get together and keep their price gauging up and what do we get? Shabby workmanship by dumbass, lazy workers, and bent over and screwed... THATS what we get! I ended up getting some sh*t off the web that was supposed to replace it. It isn't bad but it's obvious it isn't the original. I plan on keeping this truck forever as I sure as hell cannot afford another one and I refuse to buy something new just so uncle sam can bend me over and charge me disgusting amounts of money in taxes. Not me.. I'll drive this piece of sh*t until I die and they better hope I don't get wind the day before I am going to die because I'll drive up to Detroit or wherever the hell they made it and drive it right through their front doors hahaha...

I spent over one thousand dollars trying to fix my truck. Bought a new battery; I didn't need if not for that cracked, broken dash. It feel apart causing my glove box to hang open which drained the battery. It got all in the air vents and caused problems. Dodge should have recalled all the trucks with bad dash boards! I live on a fixed income and had to save to replace the dash. I had problems with my wiring because of the dash. I finally couldn't take it anymore. I had it replaced at my expense. I've heard since then it"s very common in the Dodge 1500 trucks. Shame on Dodge!! I love my truck.:( It makes me sad to think they don't care anymore than that about their buyers.

I'm not going to rant and yell about the problem that I have, just like others with their problems with the trashed dash. Dodge knows that they have a problem with the dashes in their vehicles and I think they should man up and fix the dam problem.You know it makes me wonder if I'm going to have the same problem with my other Dodge truck it's a 2011.

This is a huge problem, it has cause wires to rub raw and short against each other. My instruments won't hold in to the dash and scares me that in a wreck the shards will turn to shrapnel.

Interior quality is cheap. The eyeglass holder broke in a couple years of ownership. The cheap cupholder tray broke, and the dashboard is cracked very badly. I still have it and the dashboard is so cracked that it needs completely replaced.
