I went into the Army in July of 2005 to get into basic training, and left my vehicle for about a year without use. After returning from the Army to once again use my vehicle, the radiator had a leak. This leak was discovered after having a cooling system flush. I never had the cooling system flushed, this may have been the reason why. Preventive maintenance is VERY important, especially when you are dealing with the COOLING system. My heater core would not work, and the engine would begin to overheat, and flush high pressure, high temp. radiator 50/50 fluid through the system after hitting about 240-290 deg. and would immediately cool the engine down. All I had to do was to keep fluid inside of it, and run the heater to let me know when the fluid was cut off. (there may have been a clog somewhere too.)
So I used some liquid metal BARSLEAK formula, and Prestone Radiator seal, mixed together in the radiator, which completely sealed the leak. The leak was in an unknown location. I have yet to fully repair the cooling system, and it appears to maintain itself well. I will simply just flush the cooling every 10k miles.
