Traded my 2002 Sonoma ZR2 for a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 5.9L to facilitate pulling a travel trailer. Former owner was a service manager at the Chevy shop I used for service on my Sonoma. 20 days out I noticed it gets intermittently sluggish while cruising around 40mph and 1500rpm. Finally, a check engine light came on and threw a misfire in #1 code. Took it to Dodge and they replaced the #1 injector under warranty. Said it was "dumping too much gas into cylinder". Picked it up and 15 min. into drive home it got sluggish again the same way as before but no light yet. I am always skeptical with service at dealerships because they just run the codes and replace stuff until the problem goes away. So, time to educate myself a little. I have read similar posts, but could use any advice from anyone who knows what they are talking about.

After reading posts with similar symptoms, I fear the worst of course. That I have sludge built up and will keep getting misdiagnosed and injectors replaced until the engine goes and then will be S.O.L.

My van runs fine for about 15-30 mins and then proceeds to run rough or even stall unexpectedly. It will usually start again and run for a few minutes and then stall again. While doing this it gets a code for torque converter circuit-electrical. And the transmission loses 1st and overdrive. When I turn the key off for a few seconds and restart it runs again for a bit and then does it again. It seems to do this when it is fairly warm outside. I'm thinking it is the cat-converter getting overheated and clogging up or something. It blows some weird color and smelling smoke when it does restart. like its loading up on fuel or something. No clue what is going on. any help would be great.

We have a Dodge Ram 1500. We went for a drive up the mountain and back down (having to use the lowest gear on the way down. Everything seemed to be fine except the engine light went on. It wasn't until we started driving on the main roads that we found out it didn't seem to have any "get-up-and-go" power unless you manually put it into 1st and 2nd, then Drive. Like it wasn't registering we were stopped and it needed to start in low gear, etc. Shifting an automatic, RIDICULOUS!!!

We were told the Diagnostic test would cost us about $250, and depending on the solution, addition $250+.--Any ideas? I would like to "shop around" and get price quotes... if only I had an idea of what the problem is. I can avoid costly testing/diagnostics.--If it's electronic, our auto insurance is least likely to cover it!!! Ouch! Which has been the problem in the past!

i experienced a sudden loss of power while on my way home. i was going uphill when my truck started sputtering and acted like it was running out of gas. took it to the local garage spent 315.00$ still ran like crap. did i mention this truck runs like crap. also the muffler behind the catallytic converter got so hot that it melted the snow in the bed. it seemed to be a fuel or spark issue and on the advice of a mechanic i checked the fuel pressure. fuel pressure is fine & now after talking to others i think it might be an exhaust related issue. maybe a plugged cat. converter which i have been told will run me 250-500$ i have also replaced every part on the front end and i am not kidding i mean EVERYTHING. I will never buy another dodge truck again unless i only plan on going to the store to pick up A gallon of milk, and that might even be pushing this tin box a little too hard. What happened to trucks?
