Ram 1500

  • 400 miles
The contact owns a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500. After putting 400 miles on the vehicle, it began overheating while driving uphill at an unknown speed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they replaced the transmission cap. When the windows were rolled down, they would not go back up. In addition, the headlights would dim when the windows were rolled up and down. While driving between 5-10 mph uphill, the exhaust system fell off the vehicle. The bolts were not properly tightened. The cd changer had to be replaced after failing twice. There was also a grinding noise in the transmission when the shifter was placed into gear, and there was a hesitation when placing the gear into reverse or drive. The transmission has been rebuilt, but the vehicle is still grinding and hesitating when placed into gear, drive, or reverse. On May 22, 2008, the vehicle will be taken to the dealer for the driveshaft to be replaced in hopes that the grinding will cease. The current mileage was 73,500 and failure mileage was 400.

Noticed on September 25, 2005 the engine has been making a loud ticking noise. Took the vehicle to two different dealers, one said it was the valve train, and the other dealer said it was exhaust system echoing. Both dealers said it was normal for the vehicle to sound like that. Could stand two to three hundred feet away and hear it roar, and even if im inside a vehicle. When first starting it up it doesn't make the sound right away. But once the vehicle is warmed up it makes this sound every time when driving the vehicle.

The main problem with this 2000 Ram 2500 4 whdr cummins diesel, quad cab, truck is the Chrysler design defective front end. In my case, the trac-bar. This, in my area is a $439 plus tax item, the dealer steals another $75 plus taxes for installation. Two bolts hold this device in place and is only a 15 min repair. The trouble is in 30,000 km the new trac-bar has failed making it a chore to keep the truck between the lines. You dart all over in your lane depending on the pavement ruts and general pavement condition. I can see this design defect causing added stress and problems to the ball joints. This defect is a Chrysler problem and all costs to cover repairs should be covered by the manufacture and not the customer. This, and the other many, Dodge front end problems I feel is just cause for a recall order.

Engine spark knock as a result of a bad plenum gasket. Dodge apparently will not fix, unless I come up with $450-$500. I bought the truck used and apparently there was a service bulletin for that particular problem, but I had no idea that it neede to be done. By the way, I bought the truck in Jan of 2003 and the bulletin was released in Feb of 2003. I would have thought that I would have received a notice in the mail, but did not and now I'm on the hook for the repair.

Goodyear invecta gl tires experience uneven and premature wear, dealer states tires are wrong type for vehicle, Dodge states tires are correct, tires caused vibration and caused vehicle to drift, tire size P235/75R15. Bezle was loose on driver door panel, rear doors leaked, dealer adjusted and aligned both rear doors due to excessive gap. Vehicle experienced coolant leak. Consumer hears wind noise. Air conditioner would not cool properly. There is a loud noise from the exhaust. Vehicle gets poor gas mileage, only gets around 9 miles per gallon.

The engine of my vehicle has a bad vibration between 1000-1500 RPM. The dealer has replaced the following components after three seperate visits: Fan clutch, torque converter, flex plate, harmonic balancer, transmission mount to crossmember, and changed the entire exhaust system to a 1997 version. I filed a lemon law claim with the manufacturer, however they now state it is a normal problem. A motor vibration will cause the engine to fail prematurely ie; broken crankshaft, or other internal components rendering the vehicle unsafe to operate and undrivable. The problem occurs when driving, in neutral, and park. Repairs attempted by the dealer have not corrected the problem.
