Ram 1500 SLT 5.9L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 143,000 miles

My 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 was recalled in 2003 for a problem with the wiring harness at the base of the steering column, which I had repaired. Now I'm having the same problem, only this time the blower motor has gone out completely. My husband has health issues, including COPD, so driving without air is extremely uncomfortable for him.

I called Chrysler and they said to take it to the dealership to have the problem diagnosed. The diagnostic fee is $125. According to Chrysler even if it is related to the recall, since it has been more than 10 years, it probably would not be covered under warranty. So now I have a diagnostic fee and repair costs. I took the truck to a local auto electric shop. The owner is taking my truck in next week to repair the problem.

This has been a royal pain. Since it has been fixed once under the recall, if the same thing happens, it should be covered regardless how long its been. Chrysler has already used substandard parts on the original vehicle, nothing would stop them from using them again.

I was not able to get any heat or ac at all because the blower would not kick on. I checked all fuses relating to hvac. So I looked at blower under dash and traced wires over to ignition switch and found that the wire harness on ignition was faulty

Ram 1500 SLT 4.7L

  • Manual transmission
  • 110,000 miles

If going under 15 mph ac and heater would not work. Heat would blow out cool air and ac would blow out warm air. To have blower motor replaced labor would be $250/per and the part is $110.00. It took my husband 30 minutes to replace it. Now it works fine and two day later I have a high pitch rattle noise when ac is on. great!

Ram 1500 SLT 4.2L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 102,000 miles

Every 50,000 miles the I have a blower motor relay failure caused by buildup of leaves in the motor housing. Also every year the blower motor area needs to be cleaned of leaves

( this has been done at the dealer 5 times at a cost of $45.00) or the A/C unit makes excessive noise. I have replaced relays twice once at 55K and a second time at 102K.

I take care not to park near trees but problem still occurs

I live in Florida and when this happened it SUCKED. middle of the summer blower for the A/C had a bad vibration. Took it out and there was nothing clogging it. No leaves nothing. Took motor apart(What a bitch) brushes and contact strip looked like a badly worn set of rotors. Sanded both smooth again and put it back in. I bought a new replacement as a backup in case my repair fails. there easy to do. 3 screws and an electrical connection. Part cost in between 60 and 80 bucks.

I have a serious problem that leaves keeps working its way into the a/c interior dash section. The dealer says that this is a normal thing with trucks. They advised me to cover my truck up or park it under a garage. I have never heard of that before and I said I have owned over 4 trucks in the past 10 years. Ford and Chevy and never had such a problem
