Ram 1500 4WD 8-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 24,000 miles
2004 Dodge Ram 1500 - brake rotor failure the brake rotors have failed 3 times on the vehicle. The rotors were failed by 9000 miles, 18000 miles, and 24000 miles. The dealer replaced the first two with oem equipment. Dodge claims there is no problem and that this is considered a maintenance item. Vehicle was driven almost exclusively on highway traffic for the 18000 to 24000 mile interval. The 24000 mile rotor replacement was done with performance aftermarket components.

Ram 1500 4WD 8-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 42,000 miles
: the contact stated while the brake pedal was applied, the brakes pulsate. The dealership turned the rotors when this occurred. The rotors must be turned every 6,000-10,000 miles. Also, after starting the vehicle and putting it into gear, the vehicle surged forward. The brake pedal was applied and the vehicle was put into neutral, but the engine continued to rev. The vehicle was put into park and turned off, upon turning the vehicle on; a lightning bolt was on the dashboard. The engine continued to rev and the vehicle was turned off. When the vehicle was restarted it operated properly. The dealership was unable to determine any codes on the computer, but determined the warning light meant something triggered the throttle. The vehicle surged a second time.

I have encountered a series of brake rotor failures on my 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 truck. Dealer has twice turned the rotors and once replaced them and the truck has less than 30,000 miles. I was told today that the rotors are warped again and need to be replaced. This truck is not driven hard and there is no good explanation for this problem other than poor quality parts or repair. Dodge will not warranty the brakes or their repairs to brakes. I have now spent over $400 at my local Dodge dealer...and no satisfaction. This is my first and last Dodge truck. Hopefully NHTSA will investigate the problem and force Dodge to act.

Component: Service brakes, hydraulic:foundation components:disc:rotor details: 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab hemi. At 10,000 miles lots of steering wheel shudder while braking. Many with same complaints. Had same problem with previous Chrysler product and brake repair stated the rotors are built to minimum tolerances. This is why the rotors warp. I see people are getting charged to fix this obvious manufacturers defect. Also, in emergency situations could be life threatening.

  • Automatic transmission
  • 26,000 miles
I have a 2003 Caravan and a 2004 Ram and have had ongoing issues with my brakes. I beleive that the factory must have used faulty rotors. Last August, to my amazement I had to have the rotors turned when the dealer put new pads on my Caravan (26,000 miles). I begrudgingly paid over 200 dollars for this. 9 months later the brakes and steering wheel are pulsing again and the dealer is telling me the rotors must be turned again even though the pads are fine. I expected that the dealer would take care of this since they were just serviced 9 months ago but they said I was 200 miles over the limit. I also had the same issue with my Ram and even though I had more than 50% of my pads left I had warped rotors and had to pay the dealer to have them turned. I spoke with the service manager at lithia Dodge in omaha, previously jims Dodge, and he had the audacity to tell me if I replace the rotors the new ones will be guaranteed for life not to warp! why would you guarantee the aftermarket rotors but not the rotors from the factory??!

At 15,000 miles on vehicle -- vibration, sometimes severe, when braking at speeds over 30 mph. Dealer found all 4 rotors warped. After 3 trips back they performed repairs authorized by Chrysler in technical service bulletin 05-001-05 (replace pads, hub, cut rotors). Did not fix problem. Dealer claims nothing else he can do.

Ram 1500 8-cyl

Warped rotors at 9,000 and the front end jumps all over the road making it very dangerous to steer, the dealer resurfaced rotors and then at 13,000 miles it is happening again. We have complain several times about this and got no wear. Now that our warranty is up I guess we get stuck replacing the rotors after paying $35,000 for our Dodge, we are looking for a smaller SUV also and will probably not buy another Dodge, Chrysler, product again. Never had this problem with our Tahoe @ over 60,000 miles.I think this is unfair to consumers! please help investagate this matter. P.S. I seen a adv.for Dodge 2500 and it said largest brakes in class that is a joke!

Major front end damage and no air bags deployed. Dodge denied any responcibillity a claim was filed have the letters and email. The dealers added further injury by charging as much as possible and high interest for a new magnum SXT.made it impossible to buy the rt model.. Ram 1500 4WD 8-cyl

  • Automatic transmission

Vehicle has approximately 16,000 miles on it. At approximately 11,000 miles, the brake rotors became warped. Initially, the condition was barely noticeable and progressive escalated until it became a violent shudder. The rotors were resurfaced at the dealer at approx 12,300 miles (at my expense). The vehicle has again begun to show signs of this occuring. Refer also to complaint numbers 10059615, 10087061, 10086270, and 10087061.

Ram 1500 8-cyl

  • Automatic transmission

I have a 2004 Dodge Ram that barely has 12,000 miles on it, and the rotors are already warped. The brakes are getting to the point that you can almost loose control of the vehicle even at low speeds. I haven't been to the dealer yet, but already know the likely out come. This has been a known problem with Dodge/Chrysler vehicles for years and continue to plague even the new models. There is an extremely large number of websites posting complaints on this very issue and Dodge/Chrysler has refused to do anything to correct the problem other than put on a quick band-aid. Then they won't even do that after 12,000 miles. I previously owned a 99 Grand Cherokee with the same exact problem and am very disgruntled that it is still a problem almost 5 years later with the new vehicles. I do not think people are too happy spending 25K to 30000 on a vehicle that they have to take in and get the same thing fixed over and over every 6 -10K miles during the life of the vehicle. This is truly an issue that needs to be investigated extensively.
