Had just filled gas tank fifteen minutes earlier. Driving on mountain rd. Slowed for curve and engine quit, almost ran into logging truck headon. This has happened several times after fillup. Once while driving 65 mph on freeway. Slowed to let another vehicle in front of me and engine quite as soon as I touched the brakes. When I fill gas tank it usually die at first stop. Does this until I have used up some of the gas. Have asked dealer who sold the truck to me to look into this several times before I get killed. No response. I no longer drive that road just after fill up. Have checked the internet and found that several 1500 Ram owners have had the same problem. It will be like the ignition switch problem. People will have to get killed to get it fixed.

Engine stalled at idle, then again when braking coming to a red light. It does this randomly with no warning. Almost got into an accident on the second incident as truck took a couple times of trying to restart while at a major intersection. No engine light comes on and no codes are thrown. Dodge needs to fix this on their hemi model trucks. Have read on multiple web-sights that this is a continuing problem! if Dodge doesn't do something soon to fix this for their customers I will be selling my truck for a Ford again and never buy from Dodge or tell others to buy from them!!!

My 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 4X4, 5.7 liter hemi stalled while driving. The problem occurred within 3 minutes of filling gas tank and while slowing to make a left turn. Since then vehicle has stalled within several minutes of each fill-up, (once while still at the pump) a total of 4 times. Car has restarted almost immediately and problem only occurs after removing and replacing gas cap.

Check engine light is on. Strong smell of gas when vehicle is shut off. Vehicle stalls at slow speeds. Can't tell the engine quit as the rpms bottom out and engine dies. Very dangerous for driving. No control after the engine stops. This happened twice today. First time was in traffic in a town at a stop light. Couldn't restart the engine for awhile and couldn't get the truck out of traffic. Second time slowed to turn around in a driveway entrance and backed up when I came to a stop to shift to D the engine stalled and I didn't know it. My truck was at an angle crossing 2 lanes of traffic. Luckily, I was able to get it restarted. I googled the problem and it seems to be very common and dangerous with limited success on finding a repair solution.

My truck stalls as I come to a stop. This happens probably about 4 times a month since the date above. The dealership hasn't been able to find the problem. I have read on forums online that a ton of other people are having the same problem. Some say it has to do with erg valve and it should be recalled. They said they replace the egr valve and the problem is fixed.

Ram 1500

  • 62,500 miles
My 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 pick up with a 5.7 liter engine began to stall upon braking and coming to a stop. The engine would lose RPM and die (stall) leaving me with no brakes or steering. It would restart easily but occur again frequently. Took the vehicle to a repair shop and after extensive and expensive diagnosis was found to have a failing throttle body and associated electrical failure. A new throttle body was obtained from Dodge (different part number from original) and installed. Total cost for the work was approximately $2,500. My research shows that this problem is extensive in this model and is dangerous.

Ram 1500

  • 78,000 miles
2004 Ram 1500 5.7 hemi stalls at low engine speeds, often at stop signs, traffic lights, or parking lot maneuvers. Will usually start immediately back up, sometimes requires slight accelerator pressure when cranking in order to obtain self-sustaining engine speed. During decelerations, engine RPM is erratic and will often encounter a drop in rpms to approximately 400 RPM before engine dies. Issue seems to be more common when engine is cold, but has occured under all conditions. This has been a persistent problem for about 1.5 years, happening anywhere from once a day to a dozen times. Multiple dealerships and mechanics have looked at this, without result. The computer has been updated, the sensors, egr valve, and intake manifold cleaned, and the throttle body has been replaced. Still not fixed. Vehicle has been well maintained. This is an expensive, dangerous, and frustrating condition. Having 3 kids in the car at any given time also adds to my frustration.

2004 Dodge Ram quad cab with hemi engine. For several years has been stalling, when I finally realized it was stalling shortly after fueling and letting the fuel hose click off. I have had it to the dealer 3X and the usual no problem found answer was given. Just recently after stalling in an intersection after getting gas I took it back to the dealer. They replaced the vapor canister, solenoid and flashed the computer with an update. Picked up the vehicle and same thing happened stalled while turning into a grocery. Took it back dealer says no idea what it is-so they said all that is left is to change the fuel tank assembly, including fuel pump. I just fueled up, let the gas hose click off and now I don't see the stall, at least as yet. There are thousands of complaints out there with the same problem occurring each day and puts folks lives at danger when the vehicle is running slowly and/or turning at intersections etc. Chrysler should live up to the recognition od this serious safety problem.

Recently my Ram 1500 has begun to stall for no reason. No check engine light will come on and no sputtering. Just stalls when I slow down for a light or making a turn. It will usually starts right up and act like nothing happened. Other times it will take about a minute to start. Thankfully I have not been rear ended, yet.

2004 Dodge Ram 1500, V8, stalls when pressing brake and releasing, coming to a stop at an intersection. Also stalls sometimes when moving at a low speed, has stalled two times while driving down the middle of the road. Usually starts back up, there has been a couple times that it does not start up. Last time I checked, it is very dangerous to have your vehicle stall while driving down the road, stopping at an intersection, or, going at a low speed. Someone is going to be killed! and no one seems to know the fix to this. I have replaced the egr valve and the brake switch, neither have worked. Dodge needs to own up and fix this problem.

Truck shuts off while driving - I had to stand on the brakes and steering was almost impossible. This happened while attempting to merge onto early morning traffic in I95 in ft lauderdale where everybody is going 70-75 mph. If that truck had hit me, I and several others around me would have died. We were just plain lucky. I had it towed to the dealer and they found nothing wrong. This happened about a dozen times and I kept fixing things which were not broken before I did a little research and found out this truck is famous for this problem. 2 dealers will not even return my calls when I start to discuss this problem. They either know about this problem and do not want to get involved or realize this cannot be fixed. I have to drive this vehicle across Florida to bring it back to where I purchased it. My brother is flying down from boston to follow me in case I have trouble. If delaer gives me a negative response I am planning on suing Chrysler and the dealer as I really believe they knew about this problem when they sold me the truck there are hundreds of others with the same exact issue with the same exact truck. Why has NHTSA not done something?

2004 Dodge Ram 1500 slt with hemi 5.7 engine - 61K miles. Until now I have been very happy with the truck. It is a pleasure truck and has never hauled anything. I have done eveything to maintain the truck perfectly. I had the gsr valve replaced as the check engine light came on. Ever since then the truck just quits and stalls and has left me in very dangerous condition. I am afraid to drive the truck now. When it stalls it will not start or even turn over and has to be towed - twice now in a week. After some time the truck starts and the mechanics have been unable to find anything wrong. This truck is dangerous and I am afraid to drive on any interstate. What can I do??
