About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
Vehicle started to stall upon slowing down for a light or at a stop. Took it in to the dealership who upon first "diagnosing" did not find anything wrong/could not locate problem. Had general maintainance (tune-up, fuel injection svc., oil change)done on vehicle at that time. Stalling continued. Took vehicle back again, PCM was replaced. Next day, stalling out again, even more than before.

I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7 liter with 48K miles that has had numerous problems (e.g. erg valve replaced, power steering reservoir (currently being replaced), and engine stalling at an idle, while turning, while backing up, or coasting. The stalling occurs out of the blue as if someone flipped a switch causing the engine to die. The electrical stays on, just the engine dies. Most of the time it starts right back up but sometimes it takes awhile. The stalling has happened numerous times and is very unpredictable. The stalling began about three - four months ago. I currently have it in for repairs at lee's summit Dodge, lee's summit Missouri.

Engine stalls while driving. Dealer installed updated PCM calibration. Stalling continues to occur during the same conditions, especially while turning, but less frequently.

: the contact stated while driving under normal conditions and at any speed, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on 6 occasions for this problem. The first 3 times the vehicle was inspected, the problem could not be duplicated. On the fourth time the PCM, map sensor and the ngc controller were replaced. This corrected the problem for only a short period of time. The stalling returned and the vehicle was taken back for inspection two more times however, no repairs were made. There is also a problem with the transmission, it has been overhauled 2 times and the vehicle is still having engine hesitation problems. The vehicle was taken to the dealer 5 times due to the ABS. When the brakes were applied the rear end of the vehicle pulsates. No repairs were made to the ABS and the manufacturer was alerted.

: the contact stated while pulling into a parking stall or attempting slight turning maneuvers the engine idle will fluctuate up and down and stall. Although the engine stalls the vehicle is easily restarted. No warning indicators are present when this occurs. There is a NHTSA action number PE05027 concerning the automatic transmission control module, the vehicle is displaying the same problems as indicated in the investigation. The vehicle has been seen by a dealer, but the dealer is unable to determine the cause of the problem.

Vehicle experienced sudden engine stalling at various speeds when on the road. Consumer contacted manufacturer, who was aware of the problem. Truck lost all power functions. It has to be completely stopped, put in park then restarted. Consumer was informed by dealer it maybe 6-8 weeks before they can fix it because the manufacturer was redesigning the PCM.
