Ram 1500 4WD 8-cyl

  • 181,000 miles
This complaint is in reference to recall # P77/NHTSA 14V-796. I have contacted the dealer for a remedy for this severe dangerous condition and they say that parts will not be available for 5-6 months. Since this condition is reported that it could cause a sudden and severe crash and virtually makes this vehicle unsafe waiting 5-6 months for a fix is very unreasonable. This vehicle is used to tow a camper trailer with children making this a very dangerous situation. The dealer says that they can disassemble the potential faulty parts and determine if there is an immediate potential for failure. They are unwilling to do this because it is not part of the recall requirements. I believe due to the severity of the problem and the length of time the dealer is unable to respond that they should be required to take intermediary safety steps.

Ram 1500 6-cyl

  • 13,000 miles
I received a recall notice for a possible differential failure that could cause an accident. I made an appointment at the Dodge dealer in vicksburg Michigan. The truck developed a vibration days before the appointment, so I parked it for two days. On the way to the dealership appointment, the vibration worsened and I dared not drive over 45 mph. The dealership informed me that no parts are available to repair my differential. I called the number on my recall notification to talk to a Dodge / Chrysler representative. He informed me that no parts are yet available, and that they could be a week to one year away, as they are searching for some one to manufacture them. The differential plant in detroit was closed shortly after my model year truck. The newer Dodge trucks have differentials manufactured by american axle in Mexico. This is so frustrating, I need my truck to drive to work, 30 miles, to american axle in three rivers Michigan. I run machines that make differential gears for GM trucks. My truck cannot be repaired or sold at this time. Dodge had no answer on how to get my truck repaired.

Just picked vehicle from dealership for rebuild of rear end from recall P77. Drove vehicle three miles and felt a vibration then saw large amount of smoke. Pulled over and saw what appeared was grease or oil leaking onto exhaust. Called dealership to inform something was wrong. Upon my return and delivering vehicle to service I was informed that the transfer case had exploded. Dealership claimed had nothing to do with recall, however I find several cases of this same issue occurring due to differential failure.
