I was driving 2005 ram 1500 in town when the rear axle locked up. If I had been on highway this would have caused a serious wreck and possibly death. It broke the output shaft on the transfer case, and the driveshaft was laying on the ground. The shaft of pinion gear was twisted off. I crawled under it with a flash light looked inside the housing and it looks like pinion bearing went out.
It looks as if his is a common thing with these trucks. There should be a recall on these before some one is killed, but that is probably what it will take dodge to do the right thing.
