Ram 1500 8-cyl

  • 69,000 miles
I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 with a 4.7 liter V-8. the problem like many others have had is that the truck will rev up and down at idle and slow speed. After the truck stalled, almost getting me in a sever crash at an intersection while towing my boat, I took it to the dealer. They said the egr valve was bad and replaced it. This worked for about a year now the problem is back.

I have a 05 Dodge Ram 1500 with hemi eng. About 6 months ago it starting stalling from time to time. Usely when I slow down to stop the eng shut off. It will restart but not normal, I have to push the gas pedal down, its starts up and is ok for days. If I am above 60 mph when it malfuction it will start surging and I shift to nutural and riv the eng up and put it back in drive and its ok again. I am below 60 mph when malfuction occures the eng quits. The tem is always below 50 degrees. Took to Dodge dealer they charge me 66 dallors to tell me they could not determ the problem. And they would not let me talk to their machanics. If I could talk to them we might could figure out the problem, I suspect it has something to do with the electronic throttle control.

My Dodge Ram 1500 truck with a 4.7 engine has stalled a couple of time right after I start for the first time in a day and drive to a stop sometime very soon after I start it. The engine has a dip in rpms, and then tries to lurch forward when I'm on the brake, and then stalls. I start it back up and it's fine. It's happened about 5-10 times since I bought it back in April 05. The dealer had no clue what was wrong, they tried keeping it for a week and weren't able to reproduce the problem.

2005 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab 4.7ll engine stalls randomly dealership refuses to acknowledge a problem because they cant replicate the issue. The engine also has poor oil circulation and an extreme sludging issue to my understanding this causes the truck to shut off as well and should be investigated.

Vehicle stalls suddenly while traveling, with no warning, the engine light doesn't come on or anything. You have to stop and put it in park to restart (tried to restart in neutral-doesn't work). When it shuts off, there is no power steering or brakes, but luckily it usually starts up fairly quickly because it is very scary when you are on the highway. Have taken it to the Dodge dealership twice and they said "they have no idea what it is".

He is in the process of having the vehicle inspected to determine the cause of the failure. The failure and current mileages were 63,000.

When making a turn at slower speed <35mph, the engine may stall. Extremely dangerous when turning left in front of normal oncoming traffic and engine stalls, power steering goes out and you are left powerless in front of oncoming traffic.

In my truck as well as many other owners of this same truck have faulty oil cooler lines installed on them from Dodge. The specific truck is the 2004-2006 Dodge Ram srt-10. One member of the auto forum even had his truck and house completely lost due to fire, and his incident was not isolated.

My 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 has a stalling problem. It seems to happen at low speeds, while turning, and while having the brake applied. I have taken it to the dealer too many times to note. They have made one repair attempt. I was told that there was going to be an update on the software, but never received a call back. Every time I take it in the dealer tells me there are no codes on the computer - and therefore they cannot diagnose the problem. And am told that they cannot duplicate the problem (might be because they drive it for 1 mile). I guess when the truck stalls and fatally kills a bunch of people is when they will make an effort to address and repair this problem!!!! it is very scary to have your vehicle stall leaving you with no power steering and no power brakes and virtually no control over your truck!!!

I am having a few problems with my truck for the past year. 1) my truck will stall out or have a dip in the RPM's when stopping at a stop sign or stop light. 2) the big problem I have happens once every 1-2 months. I will be driving my truck and all of a sudden the check engine light will flash and the truck has no power at all. The gas pedal will be on the floor and the truck will have no response. The thing that I am worried about is if this problem happens on the freeway and I get into a big car accident. I brought the truck into 2 different Dodge dealerships and they both said the same thing. "whatever is happening isn't being copied to the computer and while our mechanics took it out for a test drive the problem didn't happen." They said the only way they would be able to diagnose the problem is if it happened while they drove it. So they couldn't do anything fix the problem.

Ram 1500 8-cyl

  • 55,000 miles
I own a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 slt 4X4 5.7L V-8 hemi. This truck and stalling out have become synonymous. Within the first six months of owning the truck I notice that whenever I would cold start the truck and put it into gear the rpms would drop and the truck would stall. Similarly it would stall out whenever I was coming out of reverse and into drive (after backing up). I took it to the dealer and they diagnosed the problem as a faulty crimp in the spin up transmission filter. They replaced the filter and everything was fine for about a year. The truck started dying on me again only this time the check engine light would come on and off at random intervals (not seemingly related to the truck dying). I took it in and this time they diagnosed a faulty egr valve. Apparently is was sticking open and causing the truck to run lean and stall out. They replaced it and what do you know...about a year later (yesterday) I was coming home from work and the truck started shuddering and dying and had no power under acceleration...the check engine light came on and now here it sits in the shop...again for the same problem. Three times this truck has actually put my safety in jeopardy by dying in the middle of the road (the second time was in the middle of the highway during rush hour and I nearly avoided a collision). I've done some research and apparently this is a common problem. I have found hundreds of complaints online for this very same problem and have even found people who claim to have gotten into accidents because of this vehicle stalling. Dodge cannot determine the cause of this problem and because they cant/wont investigate hard enough they will not issue a recall. How many people have to get into accidents or die because of this problem before it gets elevated to higher attention levels?

The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Ram. The contact stated that the vehicle generates excessive heat while driving at any speed. All of the warning lights illuminated on the instrument control panel and the vehicle sporadically stalled. He took the vehicle to the dealer, but they could not duplicate the failure. The failure mileage was 5,000 and current mileage was 47,000.

  • Automatic transmission
  • 35,000 miles
2005 Dodge Ram frequently stalls at slower speeds and RPM's. the engine shuts off without warning often after letting off the gas pedal at lower rpms. It has happened at speeds of 20 mph and lower, while taking turns, approaching stop signs and at the crest of hills when I let off the gas. Very dangerous and resulted in running off the road into a ditch in one case. The dealer was not helpful on both occasions when they kept the truck for repair purposes. In both cases they said they could not do anything since the computer did not register a specific failure. I told them that it was related to the low RPM's and that it was not a "sensor" issue. They refused to investigate further as they felt this would be chasing the problem "blind".

2005 Dodge Ram 1500 stalls when making turns. This started when the truck had about 12K miles and seems to be getting worse. I have taken to the dealership, and told there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. Of course now it has 43K and is out of warranty so I cannot afford to take for $100 diagnostic everytime truck stalls, just to be told nothing is wrong. This is very dangerous because the steering and brakes are almost non existent when this happens and it usually happens when making a turn. I just hope that it doesn't happen in heavy traffic. I have read online that this is not just my truck and others have the same problem. Why does Dodge not step up and correct the problem" does it take a death before they do"

(1) vehicle stalls without warning while driving it, vibration while applying brakes, humming noise coming from trans and vehicle vibration at 50 to 65 miles an hour (2) these problems nearly caused an accident on 4 deferent occasions, complained to the dealership many times how unsafe this vehicle is and they won't fix the problems. (3) I finally had to pay them to replace the rotors and brake pad front and rear, how the stalling, the vibration, humming from the trans at 50 to 65 still occurs to date and was refused at two other dealerships and turned away.
