Ram 1500 8-cyl

  • 55,000 miles
When the truck is at a lower idle speed like 5 or 10 mph such as at a stoplight or stop sign, it will stall. This happens about once or twice a week pretty regularly. Another way it will stall is getting onto the freeway at about 30 to 40 mph the truck will stall and just shut off. The power steering shuts off along with the interior lights and radio. This forces the driver to have to pull over on the freeway and can really cause an accident. This has happened to me three times in the last 3 years. I changed the egr valve and that was supposed to fix the problem but even with no codes or engine light on, it is still stalling at stoplights and low RPM situations. The local Dodge dealership cannot find anything wrong since there is no codes coming up. Also reading the problem on websites such as carcompaints.com, it seems this problem is alot more common than I ever thought and surprised it has not been a recall yet.

Ram 1500

  • 72,000 miles
My Dodge Ram 1500 with a hemi engine has stalled numerous times while slowing down to make a turn at an intersection. When the engine drops down to about 1200 RPM, it just quits without warning, killing the power brakes and power steering mechanism in manual. This truck is over 6000 pounds, adrift, half way through an intersection. Twice I have nearly run over a small vehicle stopped at the intersection. Yesterday I went off the road. Someone will be hurt in one of these instances. I have read numerous posts on this engine problem. Dodge needs to recall this truck and fix this problem.

2005 Dodge Ram 1500 pick up truck. Rough engine noise and stall. Engine under 70,000 miles and engine replacement necessary. Talked to several mechanics, including Dodge, and the hemi 7 engine has leakage issues. It ruins the engine. Dodge refuses to cover the damage. It has cost me over $6,000 including towing.

Ram 1500

  • 26,000 miles
Engine stalling: Initially it started off as a shutter when the vehicle turned. This was reported but consequently no action was taken because the mechanic could not feel it for himself. Several complaints later, the mechanic finally felt it and ordered a part(throttle body). That was done but the problem still remained. A little after the part was replaced, the engine started to stall when we would turn. Reported that to the dealer but again, nothing was done because the mechanic said the vehicle was fine. Now, they ordered a power steering pump that was finally replaced after going in several times and it coming in defective (time ended up being several months). The power steering pump has now been replaced but the engine is having trouble starting (takes about 5-6 attempts) and is stalling now more than ever. It stalls after we turn while driving at a speed no more than 20mph. Now our warranty is over as a consequence and Dodge is not wanting to fix the problem even though we reported this prior to our warranty expiring.

The truck just stalls out occasionally when you're going around a corner in city traffic (around 15mph). The truck loses power steering and brakes. Its really hard to steer a vehicle that big without when it stalls out and my wife was lucky to not get hit from behind or crash into another vehicle. The dealer has replaced the egr valve twice and replaced the ECM, once in 2007 and then this year. Hopefully, this will fix the issue permanently, but I have my doubts.

Ram 1500 6-cyl

  • Manual transmission
  • 70,050 miles
The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 quadcab lwb. While driving 65 mph in below zero temperatures, the pvc return system causes the vehicle to squirt oil into the engine. As a result, the defrost system becomes clogged and fails. The windows were unable to defrost and left oil residue on the windshield. The failure has caused severe eye burnings, stomach pains, and choking of the occupants. The manufacturer stated that there was no mechanical failure and no parts available. They were unable to determine and correct the failure. When the parts arrive, the repair will cost $400. The manufacturer also advised the contact to drive in temperatures above zero degrees. The failure and current mileages were 70,050.

The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 quadcab lwb. While coming to a complete stop, placing the vehicle into reverse, or stopping to make a turn, the vehicle stalls without warning. The dealer performed an upgrade to the engine system to remedy the failure; however, the failure persists. The contact returned to the dealer and they stated that no further action could be done. They further stated that if the check engine light has not illuminated, there was no cause for concern. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 20,000 and current mileage was 30,000.

When you let off the gas to slow down the engine cut off and lost power steering. It has happened 10 times in 2 years, but the last time it happened I was about to turn right; I hit a sign and scratched the whole right side of the truck. Dodge claimed we can't fix it because we don't know what is causing it.

Ram 1500 8-cyl

  • Automatic transmission

I have an 05 Dodge 1500 with the 5.7 hemi. It has always idled low but dealer says otherwise. It starts out as a engine sputter then it dies leaving no power steering or brakes. The last time this happened I was in rush hour traffic with both lanes turning left. Very dangerous to drive. I don't feel safe with my children and wife driving this vehicle. I took it to the dealer and paid 300 for a sensor. Drove fine for a day then started doing the same thing. This has happened many times. Found many other people with same problem.

Ram 1500 4WD 8-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 2,500 miles
Stalling issue with 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 ext cab. Approx 2500 miles. Truck stalls intermitently while in reverse or shifting from reverse to forward. The issue has occured several times since purchasing the vehicle. The dealer has investigated two or three times. Initial investigation determined possible cause as contact issues with ignitiion swith module and it was replaced. Since then the truck has stalled two additional times and is again at the dealership for investigation into root cause. The dealer is having a difficult time determining the issue since the stalling is intermittent and cannot be easily repeated. Overall the dealer has been responsive to the issue but has not yet implemented a permanent fix.

Ram 1500 4WD 8-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 100 miles
The contact owns a 2005 Dodge ran 1500 slt. While coming to a stop at a stop light or stop sign, or while putting the vehicle into reverse, the vehicle stalled without any warning indications. The vehicle restarted directly after this happened. The driving distance of the vehicle has no impact on when vehicle will stall. The vehicle has been to the dealership approximately seven times since the purchasing date. The dealership could not duplicate the problem and could not repair the vehicle. The manufacturer stated that the contact would have to call the dealership to tow the vehicle directly after it stalled, and directed her to not restart the vehicle. Due to the mileage on the vehicle the dealership will not trade the vehicle. The dealership has the vehicle and was trying to determine the problem at this time. She told the dealer that she would not take the vehicle back until the problem was fixed. Updated 11/16/2005.
