Truck has stalled out sitting at stoplight on four different occasions. No warning lights or other indication it was not running except tachometer at zero. Radio was playing so didn't realize the thing was off. Started with no problem. No codes have come up. Guess I've been lucky it hasn't stalled out in traffic, as has happened with others. Been working on my own vehicles for last 45 years but don't have a clue on this.

Figured I would add my own experience with the Dodge dying and scaring the $hit out of my wife and she tried to turn a corner; Problem started when she went to take a green-light corner from going 35MPH to turning the corner at probably 5MPH...she went to turn and couldn't because the power steering was out. Luckily, I have been a shade-tree mechanic for years and I clown the hell out of people who throw their gear selector into park to try and stop the vehicle and she knew exactly what to do...threw it to neutral, restarted and off she went. After the next 10 minutes of getting my ear chewed off about how she almost died, I looked on here and found many people had the same issue and I went with the EGR valve fix. $48.99 from Auto Zone and about 25 min to swap it out, a 20 mile test drive and I could not get the problem to repeat. I could get it to die on demand once I figured out what it was doing...accelerate hard to 40MPH and let off the gas and it would die every time. Anyway, just sharing my experience with this problem and agree with everyone else...Dodge may want to do something as this seems to be a very common (and dangerous) problem.

Driving my Dodge Ram (Hemi) pickup this morning and almost had an accident. I was heading down the road, at 35 mph, approaching a significant turn to the left, tapped the brakes to check my speed, went to turn and holly @#$%!!! The steering was, for all practical purposes, gone and I'm headed for a newly restored church. With all my strength (strongman steering only), I just barely manage to make the corner. My next instinct is to stop the truck, pull over and establish WTF is going on. No brakes to speak of. With maximum effort I'm getting minimal, to no, braking. No indicator lights, no warnings on panel. The truck had stalled, but I didn't have any sensation or indication that it had stalled until trying to steer and brake. The radio wasn't on, I only had road noise and the fan on the second notch for any background noise and I couldn't tell it had stalled?? In thirty-three years of driving I've never experienced such an event without warning. I turned the key off and then attempted a restart, expecting that it wouldn't start. It started flawlessly and continued on like nothing had happened. I'm a bit freaked out and untrusting of the vehicle anymore. This could cause a serious accident. Now from this web page, I see this is a common problem, yikes. I'm actually having thoughts of getting a new truck pronto. The truck is currently in the local garage with about 60,000 miles on it. This is scarey stuff.

I've had a check engine light for a while. A local Dodge repair man told me that it was either the O2 sensor or catalytic converter. I took the vehicle in for an oil change when the manager there called me over to tell me he smelled a heavy odor of gas when he opened my hood. I called the dealer and they said to get it in immediately. I took it to the local Dodge dealer and they couldn't smell any gas. My check engine light code turned out to be the O2 sensor, so they changed that to the tune of $245. The light stayed out for a day and a half. I got in my truck to go to work and the check engine light was on. I drove all week and noticed that the RPM's started jumping all over the place. It wouldn't happen all the time though. But, it seemed that when I would come to a stop light /sign, it acted like it wanted to stall. I have had my vehicle stall several times in the past, but was real intermittent. Over the last three months it has escalated to every two week. Now the truck fells like it wants to stall at every stop light/sign. I live in a GM town and bought a Dodge. I even worked for a supplier of GM when I did so. That said GM plant closed down and has been a struggle to stay afloat with bills. I can't afford for a dealership that has no idea what the problem is to hunt and peck to the tune of $200 to thousands per visit till they figure it out. I have read a lot of other complaints here and I conquer that a recall is in order before someone get killed for this stalling issue.

About two months ago, I started experiencing the same issues with the stalling, erratic acceleration, etc that the above posts were having. I finally took it to the shop today and they ran a diagnostic on it and they told me that aside from the EGR valve needing to be replaced, the truck needed the plugs and wires changed (Had not had them done ever though!), the fuel pump was cracked, the EVAP canister needed to be serviced, and the engine needed to be de-carbonized..? I know there must have been some type of small fuel vapor leak because in the summer I would sometimes get a small whiff of gas scent as I exited the vehicle, so I was not too surprised at that. This stalling and erratic lurching during low speed was a real pain though, not to mention the loss of braking and steering that would accompany it was incredibly dangerous. My wife refused to drive it until I got it fixed. Seriously Chrysler? WE all know that you know about this issue, why not fix it? I just got this dang this paid off! How bout my 900 bucks back?

When coming to a stop truck stalls, when restart temp gauge goes to hot and check gauges light comes on, even when truck is cold. Shut truck off and lamp and gauge goes back to normal. Also once it has stalled when you restart the truck its shift points are incorrectly, accelerators not normal, lack of power. Then clears up and drives like a brand new truck. No codes and have ran a scanner on it while driving. Scan showed no results because when truck stalls everything goes out. So hard to pin point. Truck is highly maintenanced, clean inside and outside, garage kept. Had cam sensor, crank sensor, throttle body cleaned, pcv replaced. Need advise what to look for or replace.

I like many others have a problem with my Dodge 1500 stalling after accelerating or while turning. Mine also starts right back up and the check engine light is on. I bought the truck 2 1/2 years ago with 34000 miles on it and it started doing it right away...probably why the previous owner got rid of it :) I had other issues with the front end making noises and after several trips to the dealership and never getting it resolved (finally gave up and decided to live with the embarrassing squeaking) I decided to save my gas and time and not even mention to them the stalling problem. But now, 2 1/2 years later it left me alongside the road in a terrible rain storm on my way to pick my son up from school. Here is my question to you guys out there who know something about how cars work…..yes I have had this stalling problem for quite awhile but it has always restarted so I kept going. But here something I want to throw out there. I had a 1996 Dodge 1500 that I drove over some rough roads through Indiana after a terrible ice storm. It was like fingers of ice poking up on the road and cars were actually pulled off to the side of the road with their tires “popped” off the rims. We made it through the terrible conditions but later that night when I was going through the mountains in Southern Tennessee my truck lost speed and would not go over 45mph. Once I made it to the top of the next mountain there was a Dodge dealership. I called for my family who was meeting us in Georgia to come get us and we left the truck there (It was Christmas Eve) Monday when the dealership opened they fixed the truck and told us the rough ride wiggled a fuel injector wire loose. I drove the truck home (back to Michigan) and found that the rough road actually broke both leaf springs in the back of the truck…told you it was a rough road!. I had the truck 5 more years after that and never had another problem. Now that I gave you some back ground to my question ….here is some more. I have taken this 2005 out on the Air Force Base for hunting and when we came back to the check station (very rough roads-washboards, potholes, deep sand…etc) my engine was revving up and down. When I got onto the interstate to come home the cruise would not engage. I told my husband it must have wiggled something loose like the old dodge since everything was fine before I drove over those bumpy roads. I opened the hood and pressed on all the injector and plug wires and the truck ran smooth and the cruise started working again. Things were fine for a few weeks but then it started stalling/cutting out again. I pressed on the wires and things were fine again. Now yesterday, it stalled coming into a turn…I put it in neutral and it started back up. I went through two stop signs with no problems but when I got up to speed and went about 1 ½ miles, the check gauges light came on. I looked and it says I was running hot. So I pulled over and turned on the heater…the heater blew cold because I haven’t gone far enough for it to heat up yet so I turned the engine off. I sat there for about 5 mins and turn the key until the gauges came on but did not start the engine. It said my engine was just off the cold mark and the check gauges light was gone. I drove the truck home without any further problems. Finally….here is the question: Is it possible that all of this stalling everyone is experiencing is just a loose plug or injector wire/ connector. Is there anyone out there with the skill and ability to check this out? If anyone has more questions I can be contacted at josiessong@yahoo.com Thank you in advance.

I had a problem with my Dodge Ram stalling sporadically when I slowed down to stop, or idling but it only occurred once every couple of weeks. I took it to the dealership who replaced the EGR? valve and did some other cleaning to the tune of over $600! Although it seemed to fix the problem, my truck now has 105,000 miles on it and it is doing the same thing again. It is never consistent as to when, full tank or low tank, stopped or slowing, very sporadic so you never know when it will happen. I drive in traffic a lot and it is scary but I can't see spending another $600 for a temporary fix. It is a relief to know others are having the same problem.

I have this "awesome" 1500 4x4 with the Off-Road package and the truck is down right fantastic, for the most part. Do to our circumstances, my wife gets more seat time then I do and about 2 years ago, she called me and told me the truck stalled on her. We took it to our regular shop and they had no absolute answer, only some "educated guesses" Well, our wallet wasn't then, nor now, open to guesses, even "educated" ones, so we have had to live with the issue.

After reading here for several minutes, I see we are not the only ones with this problems, it appears to be pretty common. It has only happened to me just a few times, since it started doing this about 2 years ago, but it seems to be happening to her more frequently, but she does drive it more then I do. When the truck shuts off, steering and braking are all but gone, and as another poster put it, eventually, the lawsuit is coming.

I can't believe, with the number of people complaining about this very same problem, (and more need to speak up, which is the only reason I'm posting this) Chrysler isn't putting a recall on this issue and trying to solve the problem. Save a little now, pay a lot later, nice business strategy Chrysler. I pray it isn't the surviving members of my family who have to pursue the lawsuit against Chrysler.

The stalling problem is dangerous since I never know when it will happen and it has happened several times while taking a sharp corner on my street. Dodge, please fix this problem. It could be as simple as a connector wiggling loose.

Update from Dec 26, 2010: Been having a terrible howling nosie coming from the front end now....did some research and the 2006 model had a recall on the hub bearing assy. They said they had a batch that did not have enough grease in them. Removed the assy from my truck to see grease caked on the back side. Replaced the hub assy and the howling noise went away. They recalled the same hub on the 2006 model but not the 2005 model although it is the same assy...I called Dodge and was told "There are no recalls on that vehicle ma'am"...I said: "I know, thats the problem".....sigh. Also wanted to add to the problem above....wondering if when others are having the stalling problems how much gas they have in their tanks? Seems like mine stalls when the fuel level gets between 1/4 and empty....which happens a lot now that gas is $3 a gallon :(

I have a dodge ram 4.7, several times it has shut off while idling. The rpms will surge between 800 and 400. Normally it idles at 5 or 6 hundred. Luckily it hasn't cut off in traffic, only in the driveway. But this is still a major concern. This problem needs to be fixed or I'm selling. Don't get me wrong dodge makes a good truck, but the safety concerns are to mush after reading about everyone else's concerns and problems. They cleaned the TB and injectors and replaced my factory battery that finally died. Did not fix the problem. Check engine light and ETC light came back on and has continued to die at idol. I was sitting at a red light one day, thankfully not to close to the person infront of me, with my foot on the break and the truck lurched forward about 5 inches! I did the in dash diagnostics test and got 5 codes that were described as throttle? petal position sensor/ switch a circuit range performance problem, control module throttle actuator position performance, throttle actuator control system forced limited RPM, Electronic throttle control forced limited RPM, low air flow/restriction detected and throttle position sensor 1 low performance. I'm so fed up with this problem that I am about to just replace the TB myself and modify my air intake to see if more airflow and a better TB will help the hemi run like it should.

I have pursued this stalling problem all the way to Detroit. I talked to 3 people from Detroit on a few occasions...it was a heated discussion...mostly on my part. They say that they have no records of these types of complaints. I asked if they ever get on the internet and check websites like these. Most people on these sites claim to have been to dealerships. I then ask...are all these people lying? What sort of reporting procedure do dealerships have with Chrysler? Either it's not a very good system or these bastards are lying to us and know that this is a serious problem. EVERYONE that has this problem needs to call DETROIT and file a complaint. Something MUST be done about this problem. Chrysler's number is 1-800-247-9753. Do it today!!!

Update from Apr 22, 2014: Well, I have finally figured out the stalling issue on my Ram. After I changed the transmission fluid and both filters, it was like driving a completely different truck. It was obvious the second I put the vehicle in Drive that the problem was fixed. In the past, the truck would only stall out when it was cold. When you would put it in Drive or Reverse, the truck would always want to lurch in that direction. After having changed the filters and fluid, the truck no longer does that (cold or hot). It's been about 9 months since changing the fluid and both filters and it hasn't even come close to stalling once. The Maintenance Schedule says to change out the fluid and filters at 100,000 miles. Don't wait that long. I will be changing the fluid and filters every 30,000 miles from now on. Hope this fixes other people's issues as well. Good luck.

As so many of you are reporting the same problems, I am concerned. This started last week. I was driving down the road @ about 25 MPH. I had accelerated a little, and made a turn when I let off of the accelerator, the engine stalled. I put the trans in neutral, and it fired right back up. Trying to figure out what was going on, as I was going down the road, I was playing with the throttle and it occurred again. I am now concerned. In the morning as I accelerate from a stop light, the engine is surging and I see the Tach jumping up and down about 400 RPM"s and it lasted about 6 miles then run fine. the truck will restart with no problems when it does die. This is a serious issue.... Why isn't there a recall on this issue yet? IT IS DANGEROUS! I guess I am lucky, that I have almost 80,000 miles on this truck before this started to happen, while others are having this issue with way less miles.

Update from Jul 14, 2010: I changed my EGR valve and it has fixed the problem. I have put 8000 miles on itsince the repair.

Same as almost 40 other people who have complained about their engine shutting off while moving. Also, hesitates when first moving. It has completely shut down on me three times twice in traffic. This is very dangerous for who ever is driving. I had it checked once and was told it was a bad EGR valve. I had a complete diagnostics done and was told that it was the throttle body and that it needed a throgh fuel injection cleaning and spark plugs and wires replaced. It has around 60,000 miles on it. With so many people having the same problem Dodge needs to do something to fix this before someone is seriously injured. Then they can let the law suits begin becasue you know that's what will happen. I do like the Dodge Ram but if this isn't resolved it could be the last one I own.

I cleaned the throttle body, and started running mid-grade gas again. i had been running regular for about two-three years due to the cost of gas these days. I also ran some fuel system cleaner through the gas tank as well. After doing all this, it ran rough for a few days, but has since cleared up. I have not had any problems with the engine stall since. it's been about a month or two now. You may want to try this to see if it helps your problem. The throttle body cleaner only costs a couple of dollars at the parts store, as well as the fuel system cleaner. If that didn't work, I was going to buy a new EGR Valve next, but haven't had to do so as of yet. There has been no codes at anytime since the problem started. Hope this helps some.
