Ram 1500 SLT 5.7L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 79,875 miles

As so many of you are reporting the same problems, I am concerned. This started last week. I was driving down the road @ about 30 MPH. I had accelerated a little, and when I let off of the accelerator, the engine stalled. I put the trans in neutral, and it fired right back up. Trying to figure out what was going on, as I was going down the road, I was playing with the throttle and it occurred again. I am now concerned. I parked the truck over the weekend, because we went out of town. Monday morning, as I am coming to work. I have already driven about 16-20 miles, and as I accelerate from a stop light, the engine is surging and I see the Tach jumping up and down. as I turn onto a side street, I hit the throttle and when I release it, the engine shuts off again. I restart it, no problem, but from time to time the tach jumps up and down. This is a serious issue. I was hoping to find a definite answer from reading the complaints from everyone else, but the most I come to realize is that the dealerships can't figure it out either... Why isn't there a recall on this issue yet? IT IS DANGEROUS! I guess I am lucky, that I have almost 80,000 miles on this truck before this started to happen, while others are having this issue with way less miles. If anyone has any information on what to do to fix it, please let me know.

Thanks

Due to increasing cost of gas and lack of being independently wealthy, my wife has now started driving my truck. My truck has stalled on me once. On my wife it has stalled three times in the first month of her driving it. Twice at speed. This is a deep concern as I can usually get back on the road no problem. We have taken the truck to the dealership and they have 're-booted' the computer. Told us it needed to update the software. So far so good. Just concerned after reading all the complaints if this will continue.

My truck has been shutting off for about a year now when making sharp turns while coasting, never really a big deal. The other day, I was slowing down at a stoplight, and BAM! shutt off and ground to a halt.Never had a problem starting back up, but no steering or braking power! Very Dangerous! Also, upon startup in the mornings, it will idle then rev, idle then rev, with RPM's jumping. NEVER, EVER buy a Dodge!

this truck is the only vehicle i realy had to have, and the only vehicle i have ever owned that i will never buy again. every thing with my truck is cool, besides the trouble with the motor stalling at any given time , it started out stalling at very low speeds, while coasting around corners. now 5 months later and around 20 to 30 stalls latter , the truck stalls at high speeds, around 35 to 40 mph, dam dangerous , what can the people in need do to get this crap recalled? sure i have put money into replacing parts here and there but overall this should not be putting our selves and familys in danger, and what about the family that has to drive the truck when i need to sale it, its a dam time bomb

Same issue. Have too much invested in the truck - set up for plumbing. Been dealing with this problem for years now. No solution at dealerships. Took it in to private shop and the "bright light" told me it was a carbon build up due to not changing the oil. Told the azz the oil gets changed every 2k. Stalling seems to be worse in hot weather. Have not had an issue this past winter. Hot 90 here in Charlotte last week and my old friend Mr. crazy idle is back. Agree with letting engine idle for at least 20 seconds. Usually let it idle for a minute anyway. Also noticed when erratic idle starts I put the throttle to floor for a deep 'cleansing" and it idles fine. Going to look into the ERG fix. Wanna drive it through the Dodge show room window but they be gone! No wonder! Drive safe and when you stall at 55 just pray!

While driving @ approx. 35 mph, the engine just shuts down. I lose all power steering and braking. I can throw it into Neutral, and it restarts, but this is dangerous. I cant imagine what would occur if I was pulling my trailer. Any suggestions on what the problem could be ???

Ram 1500 4.7L

My truck has stalled a couple of times right after I start for the first time in a day and drive to a stop sometime very soon after I start it. The engine has a dip in RPMs, and then tries to lurch forward when I'm on the brake, and then stalls. I start it back up and it's fine. It's happened about 5-10 times since I bought it back in April 05. The Dealer had no clue what was wrong, they tried keeping it for a week and weren't able to reproduce the problem.

2005 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi SLT trim with 47,000 miles. My check engine light has came on and has remained on for about 3 months now. My truck has been to the dealership 3 times to clear this check engine light. I've had my O2 sensors, resonator, and catalyic converter replaced. Check engine light still remains on. Now when driving around 40 mph I can hear my truck almost sputtering and the RPM gage is physically going up and down just a little. When I remove my foot from the gas my rpm actually drop to about 200-300. At other times the engine just completely dies on me losing brakes and power steering. This has occured 5 times in the last two weeks. Very dangerous when on the road and have no brakes or power steering.

Dealership has no clue what is going on... go figure dodge. I think i'm just going to get a chevy now and screw dodge. they seem to be clueless on these issues and these vehicles should be recalled or declared a lemon if so many other people or having the same issue like me.

howdy ya'll! i own a 05 dodge ram 1500. i bought it used with 18,000miles on it.no other truck grabs my attention.2 months after buying it it stalled on me! it started up right away. i delt with that problem for about a year.engine stalls, rpm dips, accelerations while im on the brakes.i drove down to the local auto zone they hooked up their little computer and found the EGR VALVE code.i bought a new one for about 55 bucks! along with the gaskets and a dodge ram truck manual.i replaced it myself, took about 2 good hours.the valve is located behind the engine (battery side)behind throttle body area. i used a little mirror to help me find the 3 bolts. its gonna be a tight space so have patients and let the engine cool down before you work on it.

I too have had the stalling monster attack, well my wife did, one the first day of school of all days. With all the traffic around my wife turned the corner to get home anf all of a sudden the brakes and steering quit. She managed to muscle it of the road and get it refired. However, my complaint is if there are these many problems out there for this unsafe problem why doesn't Dodge do anything about it. I mean really, on the first day of school, what a place to lose controll of a 6,000 lbs object. So she calls me up at work and of course I tell her not to worry about it, cause its me job to say nice things. Anyway, I tell her to turn the key three times to get any codes from the ECM and of course there is none, so I go to this site and find out that I am not the only person with this fault. For 18 years I have worked on all type of truck being a mechanic in the Army, and I tell you, safety is our first concern. Dodge really needs to step up to the plate and get those 6 figure income engineers of the lazy fat AS*es and get something done about this. This is insane.

started a couple of months ago, with the hitching and chugging during acceleration, then it started stalling, now it trades back and forth or they both show up for extra fun. engine light will come on then leave, sometimes stays for a bit, recently it learned to flash! bought an obd2 code reader so i could look like i new what I was doing, first code said o/2 sensor circuit malfunction, I didn't like that so I erased it. after a while it said p0335 crankshaft position sensor A circuit malfunction. pending code is p0300, random/multiple cylinder misfire detected. If I had to guess and it was an older truck, I would say that it feels like fuel pump giving way or fuel filters plugged, but these new vehicles with all the engine protection shut downs, it's not safe, when it stalls I lose power brakes and steering. guess i'll try to replace the crankshaft pos sensor, I'll probably ruin 2-3 other things in the process. hey dodge!!!....RECALL THIS JUNK!

WELL I HAVE A 05 DODGE SLT 1500... WHEN I BOUGHT THE TRUCK IT HAD ( I THINK ) 33,000 MILES ON IT OR SO. EVERYTHING WAS ALL FINE AND DANDY UNTIL I ACTUALLY HAD TO PUT IT TO ITS TEST. NOW WHERE I LIVE WE GET A LOT OF SNOW AND SOMETIMES YOU JUST HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT AND DRIVE THREW 3 FEET OF SNOW. WELL ONE DAY ON MY WAY HUNTING I HAD TO DO THAT... IT WAS ALL GOOD UNTIL I ACTUALLY HAD TO FLOOR IT SO I COULD GET WHERE I NEEDED TO GO. WHEN I LET OFF THE THROTTLE THE RPMS WENT BACK DOWN AND ONCE IT HIT 1000 IT DIED! AFTER THAT EVERY THING WAS COOL UNTIL IT STARTED STALLING IN THE MIDDLE OF INTERSECTIONS.... THEN STALLING IN PARKING LOTS.... THEN STALLING IN WHILE I AM TUNING AND ALMOST MAKING ME HIT A POWER POLE!!!! BECAUSE THE DAMN BRAKES HARDLY WORK AND I CAN BARELY TURN!

I HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN COUNTLESS TIMES AND IT IS A REAL PAIN IN MY REAR. ESPECIALLY WHEN YOUR GETTING EMBARRASSED STARTING YOUR TRUCK BACK UP IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION.

YES IT STARTS BACK UP BUT SOMEBODY IS GOING TO GET KILLED ONE DAY AND CHRYSLER IS GOING TO HAVE A HUGE LAW SUIT ON THERE HANDS.

I PERSONALLY LOVE DODGES, THEY ARE THE ONLY TRUCK THAT STRIKES MY ATTENTION. I AM PLANNING ON GETTING RID OF MY TRUCK BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. SO I SUGGEST YOU GUYS FIGURE THIS OUT OR RECALL ALL THE TRUCKS HAVING THE PROBLEM....

Love my truck. BUT! My engine has stalled when breaking and driving down the hwy. Just last night I was doing about 45 when it stalled. This has been going on for several months. Dosen't matter if I'm making a turn or just driving down the hwy. The RPM's Fluctuate all the time. Having not problem re-starting the truck after stalling.

I had a clerk at Trac Auto check the computer and he said that one of the fuel Sensors needed replaced but didn't know which one to replace ($350 ea) Just putting up with it until it's paid for and someone else will have the problem. This is my second New Dodge truck and it will be the last. The first one was a 2001 1500 custom Ram but after the 3rd Transmission and 75,000 miles I traded it in for a 2005.

Driving the truck and it will stop in the middle of the highway, turning or just going. I am a nervous wreck wondering if someone is going to rear end me driving. I try not to have anyone follow me because of that. Has shut down 6 different times on the highway.

We love our truck and just want it fixed. Took it to the shops to get it checked by the machines and all was fine. They checked other things and its fine but when I drive it and it shuts off, it's not FINE. It is currently at the dealers and I refuse to bring it home until they find the problem. My life and my family's life is more valuable than driving it and getting killed by a semi if my car stopped. Anyone with the same problem please share...so that we can find out the issue

Same as many others...A year ago we replaced the O2 sensor due to the engine light and poor performance. 2 weeks later the light came back on and one shop said it was the O2 again, but said it wasn't "failing" just slow to deliver info back to system. They reset the light and said don't worry about it. It came on again about 150 miles after that. I put up with it for about a year, then 2 weeks ago I took it another shop, they replaced the O2 sensor and 75 miles later the light came on. It was stalling and RPM's would fluctuate. Back to the shop and the EGR was replaced along with plugs....75 mile later light came on. They replaced the exhaust manifold gaskets....75 miles later and you guessed it light is on and it is stalling out. It is currently in the shop and I can't afford much more, last week alone cost me $1,000.00 dollars!!!

I too am having problems with my crappy Ram 1500 w/ 5.7L Hemi. Hesitates and stalls. No check engine light came on originally but somehow the dealer knows that the throttle body needs to be replaced for $335. While waiting for the part to come in, the check engine light came on and Autozone did an OBD reading- EGR Fault. No new problems occurring so I'm convinced it is only the EGR valve issue. However, the dealer still insists that the throttle body needs to be replaced as well as the EGR valve... what do you know another $250 for the fix. This is a bunch of bull-sh*t to have to deal with on an 2005 with 50,000 miles. I consider myself very patriotic but am beginning to think that American vehicles = Sh*t!!!!

I too am a victim of the stall monster! I don't like to talk about it, but I have been going to group therapy in order to deal with it. I bought it brand new, and 1,000 miles later, it stalls. Then, I take it to the dealer who can't reproduce the problem...Imagine that! I have had it happen to me at least 30 times in the past, but I have learned a little trick that just might help. After starting the truck, I let it idle for 15-20 seconds before putting it into gear. To the best of my recollection, when I do this, I have not had any problems with stalling. On the other hand, my truck still has the crazy windshield wiper syndrome, the blinking high beam dashboard disorder, and now, some of the lights in the factory radio buttons, the lights behind the dash, and around the A/C heater temperature knob have gone out. Other than that, I can't really complain too much. I haven't dropped a lot of $$$ into it so far!?
