Ram 1500

  • miles
On Feb. 20, 2023 my 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 was worked to have a repair for the AirBag Recall. I spoke with someone at JT's Dodge to set up the appointment PRIOR to 2-20-23 and was NEVER verbally informed that there was a posed risk of my dash being cracked and so I set up the appointment. I tried to update my information BUT the young lady on the other end REFUSED to update it stating I've been there before in the past. MY TWO listed phone numbers are correct (over 10 years) and my address reflected was not updated to my new home address. On the day of Feb. 20, 2023 I sent my son-in-law to take my truck to have the recalled air bag repaired, which he did. He reports being told in a non urgent, very vague manner that there's a possibility of the dash cracking and per the Service Manager "it doesn't happen very often but we have to tell you". My son-in-law signed the paperwork to have the airbag repaired. I was gravely ill and unable to take it myself or I would have. He signed the form; the service manager took photos showing there was NOT any cracks prior to the work being done and other photos showing a crack after the work had been done. I WAS NEVER CONTACTED at either working phone number listed on file. When I finally reached someone several days later they showed no concern. I now have an 8.5 inch crack in my dash putting myself and passengers at SAFTY RISK. POTENTIAL RISKS: My airbag is NOT properly pressurized, a delay with or the airbag not deploying at all if involved in a MVC/MVA, possibility of the airbag deploying WITHOUT being involved in a MVC/MVA and over time the crack could become larger/longer allowing dirt particles to get into the crack causing electrical problems or a malfunctioning airbag sensor. WHICH places myself and passengers in great danger at any moment. Apparently this is a known (uncared about) issue as reported by Dodge who has DISCONTINUED the dash saying it is "OBSOLETE", refusing to offer repairs or replacement, resolution.

The contact owned a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that while her husband was at a stop light, he began to depress the accelerator pedal. She then stated that she remembered that the bed of the vehicle started to come towards her passenger side and lost all consciousness. When the contact had regained consciousness, she was being cut out of the vehicle by first responders; her grandson was ejected from the vehicle through the back seat. The contact, her husband and her grandson were all rushed to the hospital and treated for injuries. Her husband suffered a concussion and crack ribs; the contact had injuries to her entire right side which included a broken collar bone, broken ankle, and eight broken ribs. Her grandson had suffered broken teeth which required dental surgery; he also suffered severe mental trauma due to the accident. The air bags did not deploy as a result of the roll over. A police report was filed and stated that one of her tires were severely worn which caused the vehicle to roll over. The vehicle was towed to an independent tow yard and was deemed destroyed. In 2018, the contact received a notification for NHTSA campaign number: 15V313000 (air bags) and NHTSA campaign number: 16V352000 (air bags) which she linked to her failure. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

I took my truck in for the passenger airbag recall last year at jim cogdill Dodge. They said they fixed it but now I still get calls and am told it isn't fixed. I had already had the drivers side fixed long before that but they didn't have the passenger side. I have contacted jimcogdill Dodge and the Dodge Ram people about it and I keep getting different answ ers. I have no idea if they fixed it or not.

This truck was purchased from autobarn in linden, pa. It was involved in a head on collision while entering a highway on a on ramp and none of the air bags deployed. After investigating it was found that the truck had 2 open recalls for airbags. The owner of autobarn was contacted and explained what had happened and further explained that a bill was passed in 2018 forbidding the sale of any vehicle with open recalls unless the purchaser agreed in writing that the vehicle would be accepted in that condition. No such form was signed. He further stated that he had no idea he was responsible. He was advised that this truck should have never been sold and through his negligence he endangered both occupants in the vehicle in the accident. Autobarn sells many vehicles and I wonder how many others have been sold in violation of this law.

"takata recall" on August 3, 2017 in response to a recall notice from car pros renton Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram to have the passenger air bag replaced I took my truck to their shop. Within minutes of leaving the dealership after the air bag was allegedly installed properly the air bag light came on and I called the dealership and they instructed me to bring it back. I rescheduled the return for August 11, 2017. I returned the truck at &:30 am August 11, 2017. I eas told I would need to pay $140 for a diagnosis to determine why their installation failed. A number of hours later they called and said they had determined the problem. When I returned to the dealership they presented me with 11aug17 and informed me it would cost another $289.95 to replace a switch in the newly installed, recalled air bag. I thought the purpose of the recall was to protect passengers from injuty or death from defective products made by takata and installed by Chrysler and I believe my passengers are still at equal risk as they were before the recall. On the 11aug17 ivoice was a list of 9 items that allegedly needed prompt attention. None of these appeared weeks before on 16aug17 and most had already been addressed by others

Ram 1500 8-cyl

  • 103,147 miles
2005 Dodge Ram 1500 truck 4X2 quad, was in motion at posted highway speed, with minimal wind present. As an eyewitness & owner of the vehicle, the driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle, rolling the truck 4 -5 times before landing on its top (upside down). Damage throughout was severe and extensive. No airbags deployed and both occupants were wearing their safety belts. Front passenger head rest ripped away from seat and was found about 100 yards away from accident scene, stuck in a bush. Right rear tire (passenger side), snapped off and broke away from the rear axel. Tire was found more than 100 yards away from the totaled vehicle & tire was not blown out. Concerns about 2 safety recalls on this vehicle is the reason for submitting complaint: Recall involving a problem/defect with the air bag deployment, and recall concerning a rear axel pion nut coming loose while in motion & causing rear wheel to completely break away from vehicle. Defect could suddenly cause driver to lose complete control, causing vehicle to crash and/or violently rollover. This vehicle was serviced for both recalls, twice. However, in this rollover crash that occurred, the rear wheel with brake system still attached, completely snapped off the rear axel. Also, the insurance company did an estimate to repair vehicle, but did not include or mention a repair charge for the right rear wheel or the rear axel. The tail gate was also ripped off of the truck and was found about 75 yards away from the totaled vehicle. No fatalities resulted from this horrific crash, but my son who was the passenger, did suffer serious and permanent injuries, which include a head injury (tbi), multiple fractures to his ctl-spine, injured right foot, leg and hip, and abrasions and deep scrapes throughout his body. The driver, my sons girlfriend, suffered scrapes and bruising, but no serious injury. Updated 10/1/18
