Driving South on icy and snowpack highway. Oncoming car spun into my lane. Braked hard, moved right, oncoming car spun back towards their lane, continued past car. Watched the car and it didn't hit anything. I accelerated but had no throttle response. Engine had died. The engine has never done this. Put in neutral, started engine, put in drive, accelerated and drove fine. I was going 55 to 60 mph. In drive and 4 wheel drive engaged. The pickup has an automatic transmission. I think it was in lockup and when I slammed on the brakes the lock up converter did not have time to disengage when the tires stopped when I braked. The pickup does not have all wheel anti lock brakes. It does have rear wheel anti-lock brakes. The tires are studded snow tires. I think the roads were slick enough to stop the wheels when braking hard. With all 4 wheels stopped, the torque converter in lock up it would act like a standard transmission and kill the engine. The only way that would have been a problem is if I had to go in the ditch to avoid the oncoming car. In that situation, deep snow in the ditch plus the plow berm, I would have had to accelerate to get through it and keep the pickup from going side ways and possibly rolling. Have you had any other complaints like this. If you have any questions please call. Thanks,

Engine stalls when braking. Happens frequently when turning corners, due to slowing. Has been happening for several months. Now transmission does not always respond or shifts hard. I have even had to shift on the column.

Truck would not go into gear. Dodge had a tsb for a faulty transmission filter that would crack. This is what caused the problem. Truck was just over 3,000 miles over warranty but Dodge would not cover the repair. Now truck is stalling when coming to a stop but only when I first start the truck up in the morning. Truck will restart no problem. Once I have driven the truck a few miles the stalling problem goes away. This happens everytime I drive the truck after it has been sitting for a while. Check engine light just came on today and truck is a the mechanic.

After my truck was sitting without starting for a couple of days, it would not go into reverse. I would hit the accelerator and the truck would not move. After a while, it would start to sift into gear with a very loud noise. I also noticed, that when I was coming to a stop, but didn't completely stop, the transmission would hit very hard upon acceleration. I have taken it to the shop three times. The first time I was told that since there was no code, that it was fine. I stated that if it was a mechanical issue, that you may not get a code. For instance, if you lose a tire on the road. The second time, they adjusted the electronic shifter, but it didn't help. The third time, they changed the filter, but only put silicone on the pan with no gasket. I was told that the tranny had a problem with the filter allowing the torque converter to back bleed and that they put in a filter with a check valve to fix the problem. I now have more power, but I am still getting some hard shifting when I slow down and then speed up. The problem started at 20,000 miles.

(1) vehicle stalls without warning while driving it, vibration while applying brakes, humming noise coming from trans and vehicle vibration at 50 to 65 miles an hour (2) these problems nearly caused an accident on 4 deferent occasions, complained to the dealership many times how unsafe this vehicle is and they won't fix the problems. (3) I finally had to pay them to replace the rotors and brake pad front and rear, how the stalling, the vibration, humming from the trans at 50 to 65 still occurs to date and was refused at two other dealerships and turned away.

Engine stalls or rough idles whiles coming to brief stops, ie stop signs or red lights. It is usually but not always when I have run the car for the first time of the day within about 5 miles or less, and seems to occur more when outside temps are low. Updated 04/19/07.

Since day one of purchasing the vehicle in Sept. 2005, I have had a problem with it stalling or lunging forward when shifting (automatic) into drive. It has been to the dealership on at least 3 occasions, 1 with me duplicating the problem. They are unable to fix the problem and do not seem concerned with getting it fixed.

: the contact stated after the vehicle was driven, parked, and then restarted, the transmission felt as though it was dragging. The problem was intermittent and occurred every month and a half. The dealership was unable to determine a problem, but replaced the solenoid in an attempt to repair. The problem persists.

: the contact stated while idling in the driveway the vehicle jumped into reverse and went backward into a garage. The vehicle and garage were damaged. The vehicle was seen by the dealership and repaired under warranty.

During cold weather, you can put the vehicle in reverse and it will not move at all, to get it to move you have to put the vehicle back in park and then in reverse and sort of wiggle the shifting lever. Also during in cold weather the vehicle when in drive wants to take off by itself and you have to press the brake pedal down hard to keep it from taking off into traffic.

At a later time the contact's husband put the vehicle in park and it popped out of gear. The vehicle was taken to dealer to be inspected.
