Ram 1500 SE

  • Automatic transmission
  • 86,000 miles

I have replaced this twice and now it is back in the shop to replace it again.

problem #2

Oct 182007

Ram 1500 SLT 4.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 9,145 miles

I have not towed or hauled any extremely heavy loads. The transmission has not been abused - just normal city and highway driving with a few loads of building supplies now and then. I can't understand why this would happen, especially with only 9,145 miles!

Ram 1500 SLT 4.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 24,214 miles

You're driving down the road and the check engine light comes on. You notice that the truck doesn't seem to be shifting properly. So you head to the dealership as soon as you can while hoping that you are not causng any damage. This happened at 9,145 miles when I had the truck for one year. I purchased it new in 2006. The solenoid pack had failed and was replaced under warranty so at no cost to me. But it was inconvenient to take it to the dealership, return home, then return the next day to pick it up.

Now move forward 33 months and the same problem occurs again. The check engine light comes on andagain the transmission is not shifting properly. I drive it to the dealership feeling like this is the same as the earlier problem. Of course the service writer won't give me any credit for my knowledge of the truck and previous trouble. He states that it could be a loose gas cap or other minor problem. But I get the call that it is a failure of the solenoid pack and is covered inder the 7 year or 70,000 drive train warranty with a $100 deductible.

The questions are "Will this happen again?" when the warranty has expired and "Is there problem in this transmission that keeps causing the solenoid pack to fail?" Also, if it does occur again, what i the actual cost to replace this, as they never tell you on warranty repairs!

Should I get rid of this truck now or wait and see? I thought Dodge trucks were better than this! Maybe I should have gotten a Ford or Chevy!
