About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
Truck shuts of without warning, during low idle situation, either coming to a stop, or upon entering a turn at low speed, or even at a stop light. Idle falls to 500rpms, engine shudders and then shuts off. Usually only happens after fuel tank is filled full with gasoline. No check engine codes are present, no malfunctions seemingly present. Condition is sporadic, and unpredictable, and can cause loss of control of vehicle, as power steering shuts off. I have taken the truck to a dealership, and have had diagnostics ran on fuel systems, but no apparent reasons exist that could be tested. Service dealership recommended replacement of fuel tank, due to check valve malfunction, requiring full fuel tank replacement, but no guarantee of repair of problem. This is a dangerous malfunction, as the issue is sporadic, and happens during operation, usually whenever a turn or a stop is involved. Loss of power without notice creates a condition where the driver has to figure out what's going on before reacting, and can cause overruns, or dangers to other vehicles and motorists.

While refueling truck, gas nozzle at gas station kept triggering off and causing fuel to spray out. This happened at a number of different gas stations. I brought the truck to Dodge dealer and was advised today that the gas tank has to be replaced because of bad check valves. Truck is not under warranty nor there is any recalls on it for this. I heard of this problem with other Dodge cars and trucks. I believe and want an investigation and a recall for this because of the fuel spraying out and possibly causing serious injury, fire and maybe even death because of their faulty fuel tanks. The truck is only 5 years old and has only approx 43K miles on it.

1) the windshield wiper module assembly and fluid froze. That in turn shorted out the totally integrated power module (main computer) was told FCM internal fault needs tipm. Do not have windshield wiper fluid. 2) 1-27-10 heater/defroster quit working. Had to replace the blower motor assembly. When replacing found a broken door in the motor assembly. Have not replaced the door. 3) very bad front end vibration. Was just told that both bearings need to be replaced. 4) check engine light with code need exhaust gas recirculation system valve.

Roll over valve is cracked in 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck gas tank. The check engine light came on at about 75,000 miles (8/09) but the cracked roll over valve was not identified until 4 visits later, about 79,000miles (10/09). Computer codes do not readily identify the cracked roll over valve. The gas tank has to be replaced because the roll over valve is built in. Dodge will not cover a new gas tank under warranty. It is not a usual procedure to replace gas tanks and I wanted to report this defect in the roll over valve. A quick search of the internet found recalls on 2006 model 2500 and 3500 series gas tanks for pickup trucks but none for the 1500 series trucks. Have other complaints for cracked roll over valves been file" I am in the process of scheduling gas tank replacement with in the next week. Do you want the old tank for inspection or have a representative look at it when it is removed from the truck"
